@lorna , I didn't think she wanted to permanently disable f.lux's notifications, but just temporarily while she's eg. watching a movie. That's exactly the kind of thing "Do Not Disturb" is meant for. It has the advantage that all Mac notifications are silenced, not only f.lux's, and also that it will automatically re-enable at the end of the day, in case you forget to turn it back on.

@scapegoat , I meant the Mac's Notification Center, not the f.lux menu or preferences. Do you know how to open your Notification Center? If not, look at the link I posted above. The Do Not Disturb switch is above today's date, so actually you have to scroll up to see it.

For the time being, I recommend changing your Location in f.lux to a place where the sunset has occurred already.

Perhaps you have Banners set as your alert? That could potentially cause them not to display.

Also if you dislike the feature, f.lux has an "Options" menu to turn it off in one click.

You don't need to use Location Services. Don't click the white button with the little arrow in it. Just enter "perth australia" into the box, and press Search. That will manually set your location.

I am trying to make the monitor emit only red light at night. Darkroom mode does this, but it is inverted, which is not what I want.

This is why I want all of the options (Daytime, Sunset, Bedtime) to range from 0K to 6500K.

Forget what I said. I was wrong. The location search is not case-sensitive; it is just slow.

The first time I typed "amsterdam" and an empty window popped up. The second time I typed "Amsterdam" and Google Maps opened. The first time, I thought the search failed, therefore I tried again. May I suggest to show a spinner or barberpole animation while Google Maps is loading? That might give the user just the amount of feedback needed not to press Cancel and just wait a bit longer?

You should be able to turn them off from the menu bar icon, go to Options and uncheck "Backwards alarm clock".
