At first, I thought about an overheat CPU problem, but it seems more likely it's not loaded well in memory, or some fail over permissions as you have pointed out. :|

I had this issue as well. For me, it was fixed by deselecting "Disable>for fullscreen apps." With that setting on, f.lux would be at daylight on an alt-tab out of a game, and it would transition (at whatever transition speed had been set in the preferences) back to my nighttime color. With that setting off, colors would still be normal in the game (i.e., f.lux was disabled in the fullscreen game anyway), but the transition back to nighttime color would be instant on an alt-tab. Hope that helps.

And for the developers, you may want to make that transition (when leaving full-screen if the "Disable>for fullscreen" mode is on) instant, though perhaps you have your reasons for making it slow.

@herf thanks but no, it doesn't. When I installed f.lux on computer #1 the icon went straight into the tray next to the volume control icon. When I installed to computer #2 the icon went to the task bar alongside Chrome and Word.
Shutting down and/or waiting does nothing to either f.lux icon. There must be an advanced setting or an auto setting in the download to place the icon in either position or display no icon at all.

For temporary solution, how about exit from f.lux while playing movies? Anyway I prefer to see the movies full colour so I have set f.lux always disabled for 'fullscreen apps' -- also not always a movie starts playing fullscreen mode if this feature has not been set before in the player, so maybe the stuttered issue is coming along making scene "fullscreen" after start to play. :/

Which slider are you adjusting? The one that's all by itself on the main UI, or are you adjusting 1 of the 3?

Ok, that explains it for the surface, but it also occurs on my desktop that uses a Ryzen chip, which doesn't use the Intel Drivers. So I'm unsure why it would be occuring on my desktop aswell.

Our new build (f.lux v4) has basically stopped all polling and has a much better version of safe mode built in and on all the time.

If you are seeing problems during the long transition changes, try turning on "Very Fast" transitions in Options.

At one time f.lux had a bug that caused screenshots to be affected, but it's since been fixed. Most people hated it. They couldn't take screenshots without disabling f.lux, which is extremely unpleasant if you don't want to disable it for any reason.

No. It's by design, but I don't exactly know why Mike made it this way. Everything is as he made it. Nothing's broken or goofed up.

Oh, I was looking in the options menu, when it's actually under the disable menu. (Where you normally turn f.lux off for an hour.)

Mine is (please, see my updated profile), my room has 17.22m2 with 1.28m2 window at near 2m from my back with no direct sunligh (w/ two LED white-light E27 7W 6500K). Tomorrow the sun will rise at 6:55 and the sunset will be at 20:53 (summer european local time). At December 6th, the sun will rise at 7:53 and sunset will be at 17:25 (this will be the minimum time here for sunset this year, while winter local european time). I hope it will help for something. :)

Some games completely override f.lux while some don't. Sometimes you can use Borderless Windowed Mode, but that doesn't always work either. For the games that absolutely override f.lux, just reduce your monitor's brightness. It's the next best thing - or stop gaming in total darkness. Or both.
