@herf Backoff doesn't seem to be working for me at all. I'm in 4.131, I have Backoff checked, and when I use my hue app to change the color, the color changes right back to the f.lux controlled color a minute later. Pausing f.lux also doesn't pause the hue lights control.

Just to update, this continues in Win11, though that's not a surprise. Has anything in the ensuing years made it possible for there to be a permanent way to handle this?

Sorry to awaken this two year old thread... but i’m Actually trying to get flux to appear on a screen recording. I want to record a video the way it appears with the darkroom filter on, but it doesn’t appear when I attempt a screen capture. What is a good way to get this to appear?

      Thanks,

I think about 99.99% of the people on this planet don't need anything other than f.lux on any monitor. 1200K is more than good enough.

Why aren't you using the Page Up and Page Down keys that are above the Arrow Keys instead? So above the arrow keys there's Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down.

@dab123 You're not a customer. F.lux is a generous gift from your neighbours Lorna and Michael. It's designed to help you naturally feel tired around the time you should go to bed, in order to get the appropriate amount of sleep. If your preference is to go to bed at a fixed time, you can. If you'd like to get a notification of when that time is, you can use your choice of alarm reminder apps. If you'd rather go to bed when you feel tired, you can. If you'd like to get a notification of how much sleep you'll get, normal reminder apps won't help. For that, f.lux provides the optional backwards alarm clock. So everyone is happy. Except you.

@TwoCables This reply is being written long after your thread was posted, but contains an important health-check heads up for you.

I'm glad you had improvement of the symptoms you described, including frequent heavy night-time urination. But did you know that frequent heavy night-time urination is also a very common symptom of the serious disease diabetes?

Untreated diabetes can cause major problems, including organ failure, if left untreated over a period of years. Diagnosis is simple, you just tell your doctor about your symptoms and say you'd like to be checked for diabetes. You will receive a referral for a urine and blood test.

Whether or not the preservative TBHQ was in fact a contributor to your problems, we don't know. Single subject 'experiments' like yours do nothing to eliminate the placebo effect, and merely skipping your high non-complex-carbohydrate snack before bed may have alone helped lower your blood sugar levels (cf diabetes again!), thereby increasing your chance of better sleep, irrelevant of TBHQ content.

And even should TBHQ be a (resolved) issue, it doesn't mean you don't have diabetes as well.

I looked at the so called "factsheet" about sleep disturbance & insomnia webpage you linked, and see that it's scientific basic is very, very dubious. It quotes apparently reputable sources, but only a handful of them, and only few pages of each at most, certainly not enough to prove that most of the voluminous list of food additives listed on the webpage affect sleep in any way. The anecdotal evidence listed (none of that is even for TBHQ) is not scientific and proves nothing. The word 'fed' in the website address gives the misleading impression that it's some sort of government website. It isn't.

So please get a medical check-up promptly, if you haven't already (from a GP, since they are all trained in scientific medicine, not some self-appointed New Age 'expert). Be sure to tell the doctor about the frequent heavy night-time urination, whether or not it still occurs.

      choice

For my routine, I make f.lux switch to orange starting around 7 pm if I want wake up time to be between 6 and 7 am. When sunrise is 5 am, I would make the color change start about 6 pm. My wind down involves listening to relaxing music.

I set my routine based on the the sunrise time. Some times the sunrise is ridiculously early, and others it is nice and late. When it is 5 am, my routine is forced to be as much as 2 hours earlier than the 7 am sunrise I like in winter.

@Astalker No chance yet. I'm just using the contrast option from MacOS itself.

So far there is no way for f.lux to edit the themes, or at least have a way of changing the default red color to green.

@TwoCables Woah, O.K.! I get the annoyance of changing lights, but halogens produce a good bit whiter light (if you get the neodymium glass--it's not a coating, the material is even used in magnets!) so I thought you'd be interested in that. I like the aerotech bulbs too, but I only use them at night for the much stronger yellow glow they give. In the daytime (in the morning really, and that's rare) I'll use the whiter halogens for the brighter light.

For my situation, a 20,000-hour incandescent light bulb cannot be beaten.

I have a similar issue too. I put my computer (3 monitors) in sleep mode when I go to sleep at night and when I wake it up the f.lux colors are not active on all my screens. After a few seconds on the windows unlock screen the tinting comes back only on that screen. In summary:

Computer goes to sleep with f.lux active at night. Just after waking up (f.lux shouldn't be active at this time) everything seem to go fine and the tint is not there on any screen. After one or two seconds, f.lux seems to reactivate only on the screen displaying the windows unlock prompt. F.lux remains that way and only restarting f.lux restores everything to normal.

The issue started I would say about a month and a half ago after a Windows update if I recall correctly.

After looking the official app and other programs use a SSDP service that is UPnP based which works fine. The official Phillips one is closed on a private cloud which requires a unique device authentication hash, so no go with that method on my end. Bummer.

Oh and to answer your other question, this happens as soon as the program is launched. I don't have to click anything inside the program, it just starts going from normal mouse icon to "working in background" mouse icon.

Again, I am unsure what causes this but it seems to be an issue with the program crashing and restarting but I am unsure if it is the entire program or not because the screen stays with the Flux settings still being used.
