This is an option right below the Hue setting called "Allow f.lux to keep this computer awake to adjust lights." You are welcome to turn it off, but it won't work as well.

Also, we do this only when the computer is plugged in (or has a nearly-full battery).

So i finally bought the smart lights and can answer my own question:
No, the Alt+PgDn & Alt+PgUp shortcuts don't adjust the brightness.

Philips Hue has some features that can do this on a button press:
      https://www.techhive.com/article/3628232/how-to-set-a-light-timer-using-the-new-philips-hue-app.html

You might be able to script these to start when the power comes on too.

For Professional Edition, display customization is a user-specific setting. There is no way for an administrator to turn tabs on or off for all users at once.

      Cid,

I've thrown together this guide on how to use f.lux with Node-RED to control Alexa powered lights.

      Any feedback would be appreciated!

@herf said in F.lux compatible ceiling fixtures? happy wheels:

Yes, the Philips ceiling lamps should work the same as the regular bulbs. I think they have models from $150-300 - can be worth it because some models can be very bright.

For cheaper options, you can also get traditional fixtures and add a smart bulb after.

      Thank you! This helps.

I would LOVE to be able to change the brightness separate from the overall color. Easiest solution would be for f.lux to have a checkbox that asks whether or not to let f.lux change the brightness of the lights. This would be great because while I like the idea of my lights changing color based on the f.lux schedule, I don't always want my lights at max brightness all the time, especially depending on what I'm doing. So it's currently not a useful feature for me.

You can decide to release the lights off or stay on at a nightlight. To initiate the Prepare me to rest Formula you press your picked button on your Tap switch or long press the picked button on your dimmer switch!

@herf Was this ever accomplished? It'd be real neat if it was. Loving the functionality now, but agreed that having to run back to my computer to completely disable F.Lux to do the cool things with the Hue lamps is kind of a bummer. Alt+End doesn't seem to temporarily disable Hue control, just my monitor, so the only workaround I've found so far is to disable the entire program and restart it when I'm done.

Ok so I just got it yesterday and figured out some stuff. When you turn the PC off it stays at the last setting which is nice. It's perfect.

Something is bothering me though, is there a way for f.lux to only control temperature and let me control brightness? Because right now if I want to watch a movie with a dimmed light, I have to disable light control through f.lux.

To explain in too much detail:

Philips moved their discovery endpoint recently, but this new endpoint does not work with v1 bridges. So if we use the new one we lose support for v1 bridges.

f.lux can also use uPNP on the LAN to find hue bridges, but this tends to be slower and more error prone (firewalls can break it - so this may be what's going on). This is what basically every f.lux install is doing right now.

We have been trying to keep support for v1 bridges but may give it up soon, or we may just make an option you turn on to use uPNP to support them--but breaking anything in an update is something to avoid.
