Hue Lights on Mac

@Simon144 no did nothing wrong, we never finished this on the Mac, mainly because it requires a machine to stay on 24/7 and our macbooks were too good at sleeping. Maybe in the future...

Changing between light and dark mode.

Hello, I have noticed that when the function switch between dark and light mode at sunrise and sunset it seems to enable dark mode way too soon. I don't know if it's because I live far north (64N) where it currently sets at 23:30. However above the sun graph it says that the sun has set at 16:13. At sunrise however it seems to be correct. at 01:45 I added a screenshot as well of the sun graph where my approximate location i shown. Thanks in advance

What if we had a mode where, along with color temperature, it can also dim based on a schedule so it’s not as bright when it’s nighttime and it makes it more effective when you are ready to go to bed?

@Yemafu the big reason to like TUV certification is that it ensures a low-flicker display, which is really helpful.

For blue light, this standard is not very effective, as it's a super tiny change in blue light, usually below 10%. You'd be better off with something that dims to a comfortable level, or adjusting your desk and the glare around it.

@Filip yes we have implemented it many times over the years and the main issue is interacting with the half-dozen other systems that do similar things in Windows. Someday we will have something simple and useful enough to ship. ;)

There are two models: "White ambiance" and "white and color"

White ambiance supports 2200K-6500K natively - f.lux will use dimming below 2200K. White and color support 2000K-6500K natively - f.lux will emulate warmer colors on these models using the color capabilities, so usefully 1200K-6500K works.

Both models achieve their peak melanopic value somewhere below 6500K so we do not go to efforts to make them more blue than this - i.e. we could do it with the "color" models but they would get a lot dimmer, so we did not do it yet.

brightness multiplier

loving the software, I have multiple (yeelight) lights and need to tame down the 100% default brightness when using f.lux. I was thinking a simple adjustable multiplier 0.0-1.0x would be a great addition.

also "lighting color compared to screen" doesn't work with yeelight ? all 3 options give same result. (bug ? )

Smart lighting prevents my Win10 from sleeping

This is an option right below the Hue setting called "Allow f.lux to keep this computer awake to adjust lights." You are welcome to turn it off, but it won't work as well.

Also, we do this only when the computer is plugged in (or has a nearly-full battery).

@Just1M This has sadly been a feature request for a looooooooooooooong time. I posted something similar over a year ago in this forum, still nothing. Somehow I think they've either stopped working on it or don't feel like adding it. It's why I stopped using f.lux and just went with the built in Windows 10 night light, was just simpler and since the main feature I wanted doesn't exist anyway I decided to ditch the extra software.

So i finally bought the smart lights and can answer my own question:
No, the Alt+PgDn & Alt+PgUp shortcuts don't adjust the brightness.

6500K Switches To Warm On Hue E26 Bulb

I'm on v4.119 and have two Hue white bulbs that can switch from warm to cool in addition to an LED strip. When f.lux is set to 6500K, my bulbs turn full yellow. At 6450K, they switch back to cool. The LED strip matches f.lux on the full range. Every other point on the slider seems to work. It's just at 6500K where the bulbs invert to warm when they should be cool. These are the earlier bulbs without the bluetooth functionality.

API upgrades - manual updates, MQTT, and color output

I am in the process of building a Node-RED flow, to use f.lux to control Alexa powered lights and I realized the API could use a few upgrades:

Manual updates - pushes to the API when manually switching between modes. It seems that the API only wants to send updates when automatically changing, not when manually changing modes.
MQTT - this would be a nice option as opposed to HTTP. MQTT could also be used to sync the client with an external source.
Color output - this would be great for mood lighting, so updating the API to include these with manual changes would be cool.

I'm seeking for a way to easily connect 16 lights (not bulbs, but remote switches like SONOFF BASICZBR3) and control zones of lights predefined in some controller with the capacity to programme wireless three wall switches like OSRAM LIGHTIFY Switch 4AD46, so I can utilise predefined sections of lights with one button on each of these three wall switches. In the future, the system could be expanded to include smoke detectors, door open sensors, and door opener buzzer lock release. Which system is preferable, Zigbee or Zwave, and which controller/hub should be used, Osram, Samsung, or another? Because I don't have a budget for Fibaro, I'll have to go for the cheapest option. Thank you very much!

Change Hue Brightness

I would LOVE to be able to change the brightness separate from the overall color. Easiest solution would be for f.lux to have a checkbox that asks whether or not to let f.lux change the brightness of the lights. This would be great because while I like the idea of my lights changing color based on the f.lux schedule, I don't always want my lights at max brightness all the time, especially depending on what I'm doing. So it's currently not a useful feature for me.

Ok so I just got it yesterday and figured out some stuff. When you turn the PC off it stays at the last setting which is nice. It's perfect.

Something is bothering me though, is there a way for f.lux to only control temperature and let me control brightness? Because right now if I want to watch a movie with a dimmed light, I have to disable light control through f.lux.
