And regarding the title of the thread:

yes, we have fought with Windows for years trying to get it to do a wider color range for everyone (we think this is important, especially late at night), and this one thing basically held back shipping this update for years. We finally pulled it all together, but a lot of features had accumulated in the meantime. Would have been nicer to do 4 big releases instead of one. :)

Ok, because usually this bug means that this expanding your range didn't work. Hnmm.

Overhead lights will always be more alerting due to their physical location regardless of how dim you can get them to be. Think about how alerting and energizing the sun is on a clear day when it's directly overhead. So, this is a natural reaction after living on this planet for thousands of years (at the very least).

So, when you're only using lights that are physically in a low location (like a desk lamp), the natural reaction to that will be similar to the reaction of the sun being at or near the horizon during sunset.

As you're probably thinking by now, yeah there is more to this than just the color temperature or brightness of the light. The higher the physical location of the light source, the more alerting it is.

Yes, we might have to put a big master list in there eventually (or at least a big reset button), but we tried to do the "relevant" list of apps - ones you've used recently to keep it easier.

One thread next to this one suggests updating NVIDIA drivers, if you have NVIDIA.

Also, some monitors have on-screen controls with "automatic" settings that can be disabled.

Yes, this is a nice idea - the trouble is that there has to be a patch of white on the screen so you can adjust the colors.

Otherwise we would do it right away. :)

@herf Win10. Apparently, it was not the latest version. I thought f.lux would auto update or at least tell me when a new version is available. After updating, the flickering was gone.
