@TwoCables said in Flickers daily for a bit at 9pm sharp:

The actual fix is, disable Microsoft's Night Light feature in Windows 10. The flickering is caused by a conflict between Night Light and f.lux. Turning off Night Light is the solution. Anything else that solves it is just "a Band-Aid solution", and is therefore incorrect.

Hey all, reviving this thread for future f.lux users. I tried TwoCable's fix and it worked perfectly. Turn off Microsoft's Night Light feature in Windows 10/11. The night light feature effectively does a similar thing to flux (reduces blue light), and it turns on at a certain time every day. This is causing Flux to flicker at X:00pm sharp.

      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/set-your-display-for-night-time-in-windows-18fe903a-e0a1-8326-4c68-fd23d7aaf136

"Select Start, then enter settings in the search box. Select Settings > System > Display > Night light", then turn off Night light.

      done and done.

      More info is at https://fluxometer.com/rainbow/

The screenshots do show scale as uW/cm^2/nm (spectral irradiance) in the top corner, but for spiky spectra that is not the most useful number.

We might be more interested in the total irradiance for each photoreceptor, which you can find in the "non-visual" tab on our site. It shows the "equivalent illuminant E" irradiance, as well as total power.

Our models and sources are on the pages too.

@herf Working good so far! It would be great if f.lux could make Notification Center dark as well (a function that Apple decided to disable this in Sierra)

Yeah, it's going to be decades, if not centuries, before we humans evolve to that point. We humans are just now barely beginning to wake up to lots of things, such as what we are discussing here. When you really think about it, you realize that we are actually still very primitive. However, we've sort of made this illusion that we're quite advanced. Think about it though! We're still quite primitive.

Anyway, I don't think it's that people aren't really paying attention, but it's that it truly doesn't bother some people as bad as others. Refer back to that Psychology Today article on the "Pupillary flutter". They talk about individuals with Autism, and, well, I have Asperger's Syndrome which today is just being called "Mild Autism". So, I'm not surprised that I have a problem with fluorescent lights and even LEDs. I'm not surprised that I strongly prefer natural light and incandescent light.

The only reason why I prefer LED lights over fluorescent though is, they're cheaper and they don't create "dirty electricity", and also that true incandescents are pretty much not worth trying to find anymore. Well, Aero-Tech has the best incandescents, but they don't make a good old-fashioned 3-way. Their only 3-way from what I can tell is a full spectrum bulb.

I highly recommend using nothing but pure red light if possible.

I appreciate all of your efforts.
The issue only occurs when the machine runs the integrated graphics; whenever it switches to the 5500M, the cursor displays correctly. Two other devices without switchable graphics (iMac Pro, 2016 13" MBP) do not have the issue; they did not have it under f.lux 40.1 or Catalina either. I am still experiencing the white cursor on my 2019 16" MacBook Pro (5500M), running Big Sur 11.1 and f.lux 41.1.

@TwoCables Yeah, it would probably segment the two areas too much, and would get confusing.

At the moment, we are the only two who have enough time to handle people every day. Lorna barely has enough time to post one time per week. Michael, we're lucky to see him once a month. They're busy. So, more traffic on here would be a nightmare, especially if they were asking questions that we can't answer - and especially if we had to deal with impatient people. That would hurt this forum's reputation in a hurry.

Also, we don't need anyone holding us legally responsible for bad advice.

@herf Yes, they support HDR. To be specific they are both an Acer Nitro 27".

Additionally, I am using Windows 11's Auto HDR setting. Which, to my understanding, changes a display to SDR if the content (or just games? That is all I see it with at least) does not support HDR.

      iMac - 27 inch (mid 2011) - 3.4GHz Intel Core i7

It's been years and this absurd message still shows up every time I have the misfortune of clicking the flux icon. I can't fathom why, given that virtually anything would be a better fit.

@TwoCables said in "Light is making your body later.":

It's proper English though. I can assure you of that. When you understand what it's saying, you realize just how perfect the English is here.
@TwoCables said in "Light is making your body later.":
Yes, "Light is making your body later" isn't a common statement in today's world, but it is still absolutely 100% grammatically correct.

Yes, a bizarre use of the comparative form of the adjective "late", which tangibly sensible in this context, as in "Continuing, or remaining after the correct, usual, or expected time; delayed" (as per the Free Dictionary which I happen to be fond of), is, indeed, correct. That doesn't mean it's a good fit, or that the average reader's immediate reaction isn't to consider the adverb "later", which greatly hampers the intelligibility of the sentences.

The simple fact that people have been bringing this up as hard to comprehend—that this thread exists, in other words—is enough proof that this unfortunate wording ought to be modified. And given that changing two strings in the source code should certainly be a trivial task, I am baffled it hasn't been done yet.

But just so you don't say I'm a curmudgeon who won't offer a better alternative, here's one. "Light is making you stay up later". You even get to keep the "later" whilst still being completely and fully comprehensible! And for the opposite one, "Light is making you wake up earlier", or whatever the sentence is supposed to mean.

Maybe case like this, when community has a solution for something that the developers are not providing themselves, is a good point to open source f.lux.

      @lmarte03 said in v42 - Monterey 12.3:

@m0ondoggy I have this same issue since I got my m1 Max MacBook Pro the fullscreen disable setting that I loved so much is not functioning.

      Hello,
I've got the same issue: "Disable for full-screen app" isn't working as it should be.
I have the same issue for a particular app, even it is or not in full-screen.
When I activate the function, and I go to the app, flux is deactivated, but just for few seconds. After that, flux is activated again. On evening, even the choosed app, or full-screen app, go red.

Does anyone still have that bug?
