      @Pierre-Le-Fier said in Windows Event 5858 WMI-activity with 4.119:

      Select * from WmiMonitorBrightness

      Yes this is us trying to get access to the current monitor brightness, which does sometimes work in Windows 7. I don't think a failure here is unexpected, but the log is certainly annoying.

      Came here about this issue as well as dimming being disabled when opening settings and every time the settings window is switched to the display "tab." This setting fixes the notifications (which oddly only seem to be bright the first time they're opened in a while, but closing and reopening the bar reactivates the dimming) AND the settings window issue, so that's great.

      As for you reasoning for not enabling the option by default, I highly doubt leaving it broken is going to encourage MS to fix their crappy OS. There are still numerous minor bugs that have existed for years. And they don't even care about security issues (often ignore ones reported to them until the discoverer of the flaw goes public) and serious bugs, so something minor like this will likely not be fixed for years, if ever, and that's assuming they're even aware of it. Plus, they have their own version of this (Night Light), so that makes it even less likely they'll bother fixing something that's an issue for f.lux. It's just not worth bothering users in the misguided hope that it will lead to MS fixing things.

      Also, off-topic, but I'll mention it here instead of making a new post just for it: The text in the main window that says "The sun has set. Light is making your body later." doesn't make any sense and has always bugged me. I've just always assumed whoever wrote it is ESL or used a translator for it and that it's trying to say something like "The sun has set, light will delay your sleep cycle" or "The sun has set, light will disrupt your circadian rhythm."

      tellah, I'm not sure if it helps, but I'm getting a similar issue. Things are not dimming for me at all. I can tap it, or jiggle a different level of brightness with the mouse, but the screen stays the same. There's no dimming.

      In desperation the workaround is to use the task manager to kill F.lux and then open it manually again. I use the shortcut to reopen. But it works straight away.

      It's a bit of a pest to have to do this.

      For the last month or so f.lux didn't change the screen until I clicked on it or changed any setting. Sometimes I just needed to put the f.lux window at the top. It was as if it was asleep and I had to waken it. Now it's worse.

      I miss my self activiting f.lux

      Hi Ellie - mainly I would look at your wake time in the program and make sure it's set properly.

      Also, the location can affect this as well, but I assume you've set that up...

      @bionix-wallpaper we do have a feature that disables by app name, so when this function is on, we look for the current window, and try to find the owning process and get its name. This should be a no-op if disable by app is not used.

      If you want to find this crash, I would try to run f.lux with an app disabled and see what happens in your executable?

      This is an issue with older Ryzen drivers that did not have support for color changes. You should look for a 2020-era driver.

      f.lux options > driver info can help debug this.

      @herf
      Well, actually, I renamed it like that ....
      but this is a full-fledged profile created by a calibrator from Xrite ....
      if a professional calibrator does not "have any adjustments", I do not know with which one is "have" for flux works ...
      it works ok "without" "any adjustments" even with default windows night mode......

      Hi Herf, thank you for explaining this! It sounds like for now the 'darkmode-ing' is still best done app-wise, imperfect as this is in Chrome and Office apps (and suboptimal as it is to have to switch to apps for which no dark mode exists altogether). It would be fantastic if at some point a more upstream, lower-level solution were available, perhaps once GPU makers, Windows devs and other devs have code that is more compatible with others.
