The new version shows a list of all disabled programs, so it is easier to re-enable them. Hopefully updating soon for you, or you can download again from the website.

This seems only to happen for certain apps - so we made "fullscreen disable" also return the cursor to normal as a start.

I can look at it again, but it seemed too extreme to turn the cursor white for every fullscreen app, when it only affects some.

Hello thank you very much for the reply. I've expanded the color range and rebooted and the problem is currently gone and I am able to enjoy F.lux once again.

Yes it is a tricky thing to explain, and it is hard to explain "what's going on right now" vs. "what's going on through the day". People have a daily "compression" and "expansion" in their clock, and yet the main thing we haven't explained that the ideal case is when they cancel out and help you sleep when you need to.

If you shut off all the lights at noon, your clock would "advance" from the day before - as if you had traveled east. And if you kept all the lights off until noon, you'd "delay" due to seeing brighter light later in the day.

Normally these two regions cancel each other out, so ultimately we have to talk about the whole daily exposure.

Most of the heuristic advice ("see more light in the morning and less at night") is because most people with sleep trouble are "delayed" or late types. But this advice is not for everyone - many older people wake up earlier than they'd like, so they may need different advice.

You might notice that we focus mostly on "sensitivity" in the graph, and we're trying to hint at the overall daily response. But there are still some things missing, because it's complicated & hard to explain.

I think all you may need to do is make the notification tell the user what they just did. The window coming up and stealing focus is invasive. I used to like Alt+Shift+Page Up/Down. Now it's going to be that thing I hate about f.lux. I never thought I'd dislike anything with f.lux.

Usually this means you are using a USB-based docking station (DisplayLink). We have some support now for this in Windows 10 (newer versions), but not in older OSes.

Try this new driver for the docking station:

@herf said in F.lux wasn't working at all. It was stuck at 800K.:

4.52 has some special handling of "bedtime" mode to prevent changes with "classic f.lux" mode - but only the remote desktop code changed in 4.51, which should not do this.
Will do some debugging on the beta and see what I can find.

Could it be that somehow it was acting as though I had classic f.lux mode enabled?

@herf said in Way to disable wake-up time?:

We don't want to over-promote a feature that pulls out a lot of functionality by default, but we want it to be there for people who need/prefer it.

I will see what people think and maybe put it in another place too.

I admit, I agree and I was thinking that before I said anything, but well, you know. :)

Yes, thanks for the question. It doesn't affect the peak brightness at all.

Our abbreviation of "% as big an effect on your body as daylight" is "% Daylight"...it may be too short. Maybe we should write it as 'circadian effect' instead.

We are trying to nudge people to think of screens and lights as things that have a big impact on how their body works. Not just the sort of aw shucks, let's make it do a little less, but something we can really measure.

And so your example is a great one, because someone with a 13" laptop screen just sees a ton less light than your 4-monitor setup, and we're trying to put a number on that, so we can "fix" it.

Most people would probably think f.lux is only changing their screen (maybe that's all they expect), but our work is mostly on how those screens and lights affect your circadian system.

So when that screen changes your body and circadian timing (and we can measure or simulate it), we are trying to find a way to talk about that effect, which is complicated. But we're trying to do it anyway. :)

It sounds to me like Windows Update is replacing the driver you're installing with a Microsoft NVIDIA driver, and apparently it's a bad driver. So, watch for this update and hide it. Don't let Windows Update install updates automatically for now.

If you don't have the ability to do this, then use this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Here's the direct download of the tool in the article above: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab

This should give you the ability to hide updates that you no longer want, such as all driver updates.

I mean it is too big and confusing and adding small options like this would make it more confusing unless I hide them behind tabs.

Hi Ian - are you using the newer version (v4)? It should not have this issue.
We have not updated everyone yet, so you can try downloading again at https://justgetflux.com/

If you are on v4 already, I will look into it...

@herf It is better ! "Current" adds some understanding.

Think about naming these two concepts. "Effects" is good. Add the concept definitions there, nearby.
