This is an old post/request already, but I would like to revive it. I, too, want the auto-disable of the dimming (which happens 5 minutes after sunrise) turned off. Could you please reconsider either removing the feature or adding an option to turn it off? It's starting to get darker during the mornings again so I dim my screen accordingly. Right now it's not that impactful, but soon I'll have it dimmed more and more, and having flux return to FULL NUCLEAR BRIGHTNESS WITHOUT WARNING OR TRANSITION PERIOD is extremely unpleasant.

You say "we let you dim a lot and people might not be able to see their screen if we did not brighten somewhat", but you don't brighten it somewhat; as I mentioned, you return it to full brightness, and not gradual, but immediately! (Gradual would help, but if you'd change it to that, then why not add the option to disable it?)

Furthermore, if I am still working, I can obviously still see my screen, so I wouldn't have need for this intervention. If it gets to a point where I cannot see enough anymore, I would've turned the brightness up already.
But mostly, since this is a keyboard feature, protecting the user from not seeing their screen doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Sure, if the only way to turn up the brightness is by clicking on something you might have a point. But I can press Alt+PgUp with the screen turned off, I don't need to see anything on the screen, so if it does get to the point where I am unable to see my screen, I can easily fix it.

So pleeeaaaase remove this feature! I really don't think many people (if anyone) prefer it this way.

@Vani09 it sounds like a full video driver crash. Usually our monitor info will show the video driver version, so I would look for an updated driver. Also are you on the latest version of f.lux?

@Sans96 thank you we will look into it

@T_H_M thank you - do you think it is not running on startup or is it more likely crashing? I am not seeing an uptick in crash reports on our side.

I have exactly the same problem!
f.lux does not want to update to latest BETA.

I ended up buying another screen with normal minimum luminosity.

It's a bit unfortunate that comments take 18+ days to be validated, and that there aren't any new status since a year on that feature request.

@levitation This works perfectly. As much as I appreciate the limitation for typical users, some of us want a simple feature to disable any time-based screen adjustment. Thanks! Absolutely saved me from having to look into alternatives that won't throw off my automation every morning at sunrise.

@herf Hi! I came here to add my +1 to this feature… Even though it wouldn't figure out sunset and sunrise times, I was quite happy with having added two cron jobs that pointed to two shell scripts that pointed to two Shortcuts (quite convoluted, I know) that toggled colour filters on macOS, as a bit of a workaround for this shortcoming in f.lux, only to find out about this limitation.

I would much prefer for this to be an option in f.lux as well, as a lot of people who use it and Night Shift seem to be turning to greyscale mode as well. On the iPhone and on the iPad, they mostly use Night Shift, as sideloading f.lux hasn't been an option for years, but on the Mac, having the option to use f.lux, I reckon it would be quite popular as well. As a matter of fact, with alternative app stores and sideloading on the EU, maybe f.lux could come back to iOS and iPadOS?

@lysersz05 I noticed this the first time I installed it yesterday. Beer is making my body later, too.

@tom123 I agree. I think f.lux should behave like other apps when I have Windows set to dark mode all the time. Bothers me when random apps ignore it and blind me.

@generalKenobi thanks - the first one is 42.1 and the second is 42.2 - the untrusted certificate is quite unexpected but now appears to affect all builds from 2022 and before - must be some new security changes in macOS.

We've updated the website to point to 42.2, so builds going forward will have proper signatures.

I have created a Windhawk mod for this purpose. This mod adjusts the Windows API for f.lux in such a way that f.lux thinks the time is always same, therefore not changing the colour automatically.
