@kazooless thank you for posting this solution! I did not know stuffit expander was an issue.

I have similar problem. I cannot access the controls for flux by clicking on the app. The app is running on its own and is way to dark and I cannot get to where I can make adjustments. I am using MacOS Catalina on a 2019 MacBook Pro 15".

I created an account on here just to reply to say this also worked for me. My contrast wasn't set to Normal either, for some reason.

This is a feature our About box has had for years - it does not record your screen, it estimates your screen brightness.

If you update to 40.1, this feature has been turned off, until we can make the prompt sound less crazy.

FluxLion.zip sent on down opens as v39.97 on Lion os x.

Thanks for letting us know about this @planet - f.lux does not ever record screens or what's on them.

I haven't upgraded to Catalina yet, so I guess it's time. (RIP my audio software.)

I've had gfxCardStatus on my machine for over a year. Changing the GPU has no effect.

I also tried using a completely new Firefox profile--didn't solve the problem.

The behavior is limited to Firefox and seems entirely isolated to my user account.

The only other culprit I can think of (I'm grasping at straws
here) is SIMBL, which I've used for a few years to get back the look of a transparent launch pad.

Other than that, I'm ready to give up and create a new
user account and move "non-controversial" stuff over
there. (Been using Safari lately, but don't like its UI very much).

Still on Mojave 10.14.6 I thought I'd report back as f.lux is working again after I created a test account to see if something's wrong with my current account and f.lux would work in the new account. It did and now it also works again in my old account... It's totally unclear to me why but somehow this also resulted in display profiles working again.

@herf Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

For what it's worth, the "Melantopic Light (vs. white)" calculator in f.lux's "about" box seems to be working just fine, even though I haven't granted f.lux permission to "record" the screen.

It continues to calculate the ever-changing melantopic light, without triggering the dialog box again.
