Can't uninstall to reinstall app

Flux was working until recently but I can definitely tell that the app is not on.
I have the application downloaded and it is in my application folder but when I try to move it to the trash to uninstall, it tells me that I can't because it is open.
The system dock does not open when I click on it, when I look into my force quit options it is not listed as an application that is running. The f.lux application is present in the app folder, not the download zip.
Please advise - thank you!
