WARNING! If you have already installed "Flux.app" application (a web design app from The Escapers) on your Mac, you definitely need to rename this "Flux.app" in "F.lux.app". Otherwise, "Flux" (F.lux) overwrite and erase "Flux" (from The Escapers).

By the way, F.lux is a great application. Deep congrats to the team!

So why do we have to do what you are stating? What are the harmful affects and what are the Escapers?

Click on the links and you'll understand what I tried to explain, ghost27. As you certainly know, the OS X Applications folder doesn't allow to have two applications with the same name.
          That's why... ;-)

Note: for your information, The Escapers are a Mac software development team. They make Flux (a kind of DreamWeaver killer for the Mac) since 2012.

I wouldn't recommend renaming our app since our updater will most likely overwrite whatever you have in that space anyway. f.lux has been using Flux.app since 2009, regrettably sometimes there are name collisions like this.

You're right. So I'll store the other app (the younger one 😉 ) in a subfolder.

              Have a nice weekend!

Although you have been using this product name for longer than the other guys, I think it would benefit your users to rename it. It is very annoying when updates overwrite each other back and forth. As an end user, I get annoyed dealing with this. I like both apps for their respective functionalities. I agree you have the right of precedence; however, you might show your great magnanimity by renaming to help the end-user and highlight the other guy's folly. I have already complained to the other company.

F.lux is a long-established name, years before Flux. So if anyone should change their name, it's The Escapers. I don't think it's fair to want the name "f.lux" to be changed. I also don't think it's a good idea since it has been around now for a very long time.

Imagine you are a developer of some program that becomes extremely popular and 10+ years later a new program comes along with an extremely similar name and it causes problems and then many of your users ask you to change the name of your program! F.lux was here first.

I think it would be a good idea to put one or the other in a sub-folder. But renaming is a bad idea because then updates will fail.

They're asking you to change the name of your program.

Yes, a subfolder will fix it, for people who want to use both programs.

I do not recommend renaming, either bundle names or company names. :)

Locking / resolving thread, if you need to use both programs, please put one in a subfolder.
