I am a new user of f.lux, I have a macbook pro running OS X 10.11.2, what should I do with the f.lux running and the brightness of my screen because I always keep it to 50%, is this normal for usage

Brightness, distance from your eyes, and color all have an affect, as well as what time you're using the screen and for how long you use it! I would suggest you adjust the screen to what feels comfortable to you and after you get used to it try adjusting it again to see what you like. I like it when my screen looks like a piece of paper in the room I'm in.
