I highly recommend using nothing but pure red light if possible.

Well I have a GTX 660 Ti,
CPU is Intel Xeon 1230v3 Haswell,
Monitor is a HANNSpree 24" TN panel
New monitor: BenQ 2760HS
RAM is 4GB 1600 MHz DDR 3
Storage is 250GB Samsung 840 SSD (they have the best / lowest power consumption)
Also have 232 GB drive with a few games on it. (along with all of my slightly older nonworking windows install)
Motherboard is a $100 GIGABYTE Sniper G1 gaming B6 board.What are you using?

Every single time you ask for a cherry-flavored drink of any kind, your chances of them using grenadine are high. Some bars and restaurants will use cherry juice and/or a special cherry flavoring, but I usually see them using grenadine. Of course, this is only when the actual cherry-flavored variety that the manufacturer produces isn't available to them - OR, when you ask for something that doesn't have a cherry-flavored variety. For example, I like to ask for a cherry-flavored Sprite or 7-Up because it's tasty but doesn't have any caffeine. Usually, they use grenadine. This drink is actually called a Shirley Temple, but I am a man and I'm not about to be like, "Yeah, I'll have a Shirley Temple". Hell no. lol

So, I just realized something slightly funny. This thread is all about red light and Grenadine is red. Is that a funny coincidence? :)
ANYway, so here I am sitting in my pure red light with f.lux set to 1187K thanks to Alt+Page Down and my monitor's brightness is dimmed very very very low. It's not 0% because my FEIT red LEDs are fairly bright, but they're very red. The reason why I'm posting is just to keep saying wow, I love this!
Reader, if you haven't tried this yet, then I'd love for you to do so. You may or may not think at first that this is a little weird, or if you aren't living alone then the person you live with might be like, "Dude, what's with the red light?", but I cannot deny how this is making me feel! It's enabling me to be completely relaxed. It won't be along now before I'll be ready to go to sleep.
When I go to sleep, I go down to just one red light and it becomes even calmer feeling. I get into bed, get comfortable, turn the light off and I'm ready to fall asleep. It's not quite like going froim a sunset to total darkness, but it's close enough for me. :)
So yeah, red light is fantastic at bedtime. Or perhaps just for use at night when you want to be able to see but you don't want any blue light. Or just use FEIT's Orange lights. Or go from Yellow to Orange to Red during sunset and end on red right at sunset or right after. FEIT makes them all.
All I have to do now is figure out if swapping lights in my socket every single day is safe!
(the use of my red Westinghouse LEDs is still in experimental mode, so I can't comment on their quality quite yet)

Here's an important tip if you were to try any red LED lights: they will seem much dimmer than they really are. It's hard to explain, but just know that if you get a red light and it seems like it's too dim or much dimmer than advertised, it's just an illusion due to the light being red. I don't know if I know how to explain it though, but I would say that it's just due to the lack of the "brighter" colors of the spectrum. It's just like when you set f.lux to a warmer color, it seems that the brightness is being dimmed even though it's not.

https://fluxometer.com/rainbow/#!id=NGDC LED/TCP Red 1WI may pick up the amber version but the red is lower so I'm not a fan of that.

That's not the measurement I took here - sorry I intended to post some things Monday but got busy with other stuff! I'll post a screencap or the info later. (I have to wait for it to get dark to get accurate measurements at my desk ha!)

No, mine is made by Westinghouse, as I said several times now. I don't know how they compare, so I'm not going to go by that.

Not at all, surprisingly. I find it to be very soothing and when it's time to lay down and go to sleep, I sometimes find that I don't want to turn my red FEIT LED lights off. :) I also find that if my eyes are tired and my eyelids are also oily, sitting in pure red light makes my eyes stop feeling tired and I almost don't notice the oiliness of my eyelids at all. If I were to expose my eyes to bright white bluish light, then I'd definitely feel discomfort in my eyes.
Take now, for example. It's just after 5pm and I've been awake for just over 34 hours (I've been trying to wait until sunset). Right now it's bright and sunny out but I have decided to give up waiting for sunset and begin getting ready for bed. So, I closed my room-darkening blinds to block as much of the sunlight as possible (they don't do a GREAT job though, but it's enough). Then I swapped out both of my Switch 3-Way lights for my FEIT red LEDs.
Of course, after that I also changed my f.lux location to somewhere where the sun has set already so that I could choose a color temperature that's warmer than 2700K. I chose 1200K and I pressed Alt+Page Down just once because otherwise everything is kind of washed out. Alt+Page Down just once brings everything back to normal for me. Plus, it's even warmer at 1187K vs. 1200K. I also always go into my monitor's color control for red green and blue and I take green and blue all the way down to 0 while leaving red at 50 (100 is the max). I also reduce my monitor's brightness to almost 0.
Prior to doing this, my eyes were beginning to be unbearably uncomfortable. My eyelids are oily, I've been awake for over 34 hours, and so all I wanted to do is close my eyes! However, I'm also in the middle of digesting food! I can't win. :) I was planning to wait until sunset before going to bed, so I'm gonna have to sit in this red light for a little longer than normal - but I'm fine with that because I love it.
So pure red light is almost like not having any lights on, yet I can still see everything. It's great!

You may prefer the more inviting amber (orange) lights, but red is really nice, I've got some that do red, and it's just awesome for brushing my teeth and such!

I'm having flashbacks to the 60's and early 70's :)
I operated my photo darkroom in my childhood bedroom, so it was light tight (which takes a bit of getting used to).
(I did find my self memorizing step patterns, which I learned from a blind friend)Red lights were used as the 'safe light' for many stages of the photo process, film development, printing/enlargement, print development, fix and rinse.
I adopted them as the primary light I could switch on and see what I needed to (outside of photo use).
Looking forward to installing f.lux after I upgrade my machine to see how it works dynamically. Would love to not have blue light blaring at me before bed :)

In addition to letting the f.lux team know what you think of Darkroom Mode, let me know if you decide to get FEIT's red LEDs! I would love to make a positive difference like that. I really enjoy sitting here with nothing but my red LEDs on and f.lux set to 1200K (well, 1187K because I press Page Down once because my monitor seems to display 1200K as a bit washed out). I also adjust my monitor's color settings: I reduce Green and Blue all the way to 0 while leaving Red at 50. I also dim my monitor's brightness almost all the way down to 0, or sometimes I do go all the way down to 0 if I feel like it.
I still have to be careful with the brightness of red light though because the contraction of the pupils is alerting.

@TwoCables you can probably get into the secret menu on your monitor to tweak the color levels of the default color presets.
Maybe just use the default and then switch to user mode with just red.

Yeah, and you could just use "normal" color preset, then just switch it to "custom" instead of changing it every night as it seems you do now.
