Light is making your body earlier rephrasing
-
@twocables It is occurring again, 8.44am; set to 1200k the message says "Light is making your body earlier". Slide towards the other end of the scale and at 3000k and higher it said "Light is making your body later". This is a message advice state dependent on the light temp set in f.lux. This is either a program bug or another dynamic that is not explained, but is assumed to be universally understood by all.
I think the good people at f.lux may need to address this.

TwoCables, thankyou for your input but I am going to ask that you accept that there are many people who are going to read "Light is making your body later/earlier" and immediately think, "For what?"
In the middle of the afternoon I slid the scale down to firelight and it changed from "light is making your body later" to "light is making your body earlier". This is the reason I have interpreted the statements as I have. This seems to be leaving many confused. Unfortunately, we aren't all as well educated as yourself or the lovely souls at f.lux.I am NOT educated. I didn't go to college, and I barely made it through K-12. All I did was I took the time to understand the phrase, and now I understand it. It's not that difficult.
I am so damn sick of this discussion on this forum that I wish a rule existed saying we aren't allowed to discuss this anymore. It's been beaten to death and resurrected so many times that now every time I see it resurrected, I actually get pissed off. When you posted this thread, I rolled my eyes in disgust. "Oh good lord, here we go again. Sigh."
The phrase is simply referring to the natural biological circadian rhythm. That's it. There's nothing more to it.
I think the best solution is to get rid of the phrase altogether because all it has done is cause the most annoying discussion I've ever seen, lasting more than just a year or two. It's been discussed to death on this forum ever since the phrase was added to the window, and NOBODY has ever been able to get anywhere by discussing it. It's not because of me. It's because the phrase is absolutely 100% perfect as-is, yet everyone seems to think they know better when in fact THEY DON'T.
-
I have another thought: if you don't like the phrase or if you continue being unable to understand it, then just stop looking at it! Just enjoy the functionality of f.lux and quit caring about the phrase. Understanding it doesn't change anything at all. I can tell you that because nothing changed for me when I decided to understand it. Well, maybe my understanding of it helped me better understand how light affects our circadian rhythms - but I think I knew that already anyway.

@twocables I'm going to. It's not a stress to me. It just was not clear, hence why I looked it up and came across this forum. You, my friend, are obviously over-invested in this if it causing you to feel so strongly. Maybe, ignore these threads in future instead of getting yourself into a state. All the best :)

I'm the only one now who gives these discussions any attention. I don't want anyone to feel ignored. That's just how I roll. Sure, it means that I choose to reply every time this discussion is resurrected, but that's fine. I'd rather go through this than see extra posts from people complaining about being ignored - which has happened from other threads (with completely different topics that have no relation to this discussion).

Thanks dude, I appreciate it. You just come across a lil intense :P
The sentence does make sense when you understand the context. Unfortunately, it is not as self explaining as some phrases can be. And, the changing of the message when I adjust the colour temp is confusing. If they decide to make space for a longer message or come to a consensus on something different down the track... i've stopped caring. Have a good weekend man. Cheers -

CheersPut yourself in my place: I look at this forum every day. I mean, try to imagine looking at this forum every day, and every so often this discussion comes back to life. It wasn't annoying in the least bit at first, but after a year or so of it repeatedly being resurrected, it became quit annoying. Today, omg, I don't even know what analogy to use to describe just how annoying it has become. I can't apologize for how I react to this because I think anyone else would get just as annoyed by this. Perhaps a good analogy might be like a gnat or a fruit fly that just won't go away and keeps successfully flying away every time you try to kill it - only to come back later to fly around you some more. Every time. Endlessly, for hours and hours and hours. It has reached the point on here where it's almost exactly like that with this discussion.
-
I'm confident it will come up again, and again. It's obviously a problem phrase if so many people are querying it. Regardless of your view and your slightly unsettling emotional investment into this topic (hehe); if a great number of people don't understand the phrase it obviously needs better explaining. I'm not stupid and I do think it's an iffy phrase. Stop looking at the posts if these are such a bother dude. I have tried to be polite but there has been so much dribble in between not very useful information. This forum should be informative, not hostile. Goodbye
-
I'm not being hostile. You should know that based on everything I have said so far. I have made where I'm coming from very clear.
As I said: put yourself in my place. I've had to see this damn discussion get resurrected over and over and over and over and over and over and over several times every year for the last I-don't-know-how-many-years. I'm sick of it! You'd be sick of it too. A person can only take so much of the same annoying crap. This discussion NEVER accomplishes anything. Ever. I've tried and tried and have done my absolute BEST to educate others, but I'm at my frickin' wit's end with this stupid discussion. Since the day this phrase was put in f.lux, it has remained 100% unchanged, and believe me, there have been FAR better ideas for new phrases than yours. Far better. The problem is, none of them have ever been as perfect or as accurate or as elegantly succinct as the current one.
Do a forum search for this damn topic, and you will see for yourself.

If the user TWO CABLES really thinks that the sentence "light is making your body later/earlier" is "perfect" then they are not the person who should be giving advice. These are very hostile responses from the user TWOCABLES and the user is candidly oblivious to how they are coming across.
Sometimes it's not worth going to the internet for information/advice, especially in a forum like this where you ask a question and are then headbashed for not "getting it".
-
Email f.lux and ask them to explain it, hopefully without the attitude ;) > support@justgetflux.com

I don't appreciate this one bit. It looks like you want to start a fight, and I'm definitely not interested. If you want to have a discussion, then fine, let's have a discussion. It seems to me that all you want to do is bash me and I'm not tolerating it.
Do a forum search for this discussion. Then you'll see how long it's been taking place, and you'll see how many attempts have been made to improve this phrase, and you'll see a complete lack of success from anyone. The fact that this phrase hasn't been altered one iota since the day it was added to the f.lux window proves that it's just fine as it is.
The first several times this discussion came up, it wasn't annoying. In fact, I learned what the phrase means due to this phrase being questioned by others because it made me take a look at it. So, I'm glad it was questioned, but it has been questioned so many damn times since then that now it has become extremely irritating.

That message was clearly for the OP. Twocables you a having a negative input, you are stifling the ability to have a conversation and you haven't actually explained anything to the OP other than your frustration at a question that still doesn't have a clearly explained answer.
If it does, please copy paste it below and keep the personal opinion above that to yourself..
You say that ;
- "There's nothing more that needs to be said" yet you have failed to address syntax issues with the phrase other than to say the phrase is "absolutely 100% perfect as-is"
- "I am so damn sick of this discussion"
- "I actually get pissed off"
- "the most annoying discussion I've ever seen"
- "everyone seems to think they know better when in fact THEY DON'T"
- "I'm not being hostile"
- "I'm at my frickin' wit's end with this stupid discussion"
- "there have been FAR better ideas for new phrases than yours"
- "It looks like you want to start a fight, and I'm definitely not interested"
Hmmm, all quotes from you. This is the wrong place to come for advice people

It has been clearly answered dozens of times in other threads. As I said, I and others have made SEVERAL attempts to explain this phrase. No one ever listens or accepts the answers given. So why should I waste my time again here? It's just going to have the same result. Do a forum search and read the posts. I refuse to try YET AGAIN to explain this phrase because I know exactly how it will go because every time I try or someone else tries, it's the exact same thing, every, single, time. Nothing I can say here will be any better or different than what has already been offered. So, just do a forum search. I am absolutely sick and tired of this damn discussion coming back over and over and over. I'm not referring to THIS THREAD. I'm referring to this particular discussion which has spanned multiple threads.
When you are looking to bring up a discussion that has been brought up dozens and dozens of times before and has never gotten anywhere because people always reject the answers and explanations of the phrase we give, it should be no surprise that I have pretty much run out of patience with this.
This doesn't mean I won't have patience for other questions. No. THIS ONE THOUGH?! Omg. You have no idea how many times it has been resurrected and beaten to death. It's ridiculous. It has become the single most annoying thing I have ever seen on any forum.
-
Clarification: I'm not involved with f.lux or this forum. I'm just someone who has enjoyed helping on this forum. I usually have unlimited patience because each post is from a new person (it would be quite a pain in the rear to have to keep answering the same question from the same person every day). However, this particular thing has caused me to lose my patience - but only for this thing. It just keeps being brought up and brought up and brought up and brought up and brought up and brought up. Good lord. Enough already. Do a forum search.
Ultimately, I can tell you this much right now: the phrase will never be changed because it's perfect as-is. Don't you think they would've changed it by now? Dozens and dozens of different phrases have been proposed, none have even been considered. It's better to just understand the phrase that's in use if it's really bothering you that much.

This is not about you.
This is not just your forum.
If you know the answer you should be able to share it/ copy paste it and walk away.
Most of the threads talking about this phrase have questions that get casually ignored, such as in this thread.
It IS pointless to seek an answer when people like yourself is providing, or more correctly abstaining from providing an answer based on your own feelings.
Have already done a forum search and cannot find a clear answer and many questions not adressed.
THE FORUM SEARCH WAS THE FIRST THING THAT WAS DONE
I REPEAT, MANY QUESTIONS ARE IGNORED
YOU ARE DOING MOST OF THE ANSWERING IN THESE THREADS
TELLING PEOPLE THE PHRASE IS PERFECT BUT IGNORING PEOPLE'S VALID QUESTIONS AND LINES OF REASONING
Your attitude is miserable
You may not be involved with f.lux but you are definitely taking over this site
Like the folks that screamed the earth was flat and would stone anyone who said otherwise...
Enjoy your forum, this disturbing place

"LIGHT NOW IS EXTENDING (YOUR PLANNED) SUNSET BY X MINUTES" (X being minutes since sunset)
"LIGHT NOW IS ADVANCING (YOUR PLANNED) SUNRISE BY X MINUTES" (X being minutes until sunrise)
If i'm awake all night and I see the message "Light is making your body earlier" before sunrise, and I have been in light all night long, the message would be incorrect, light all night has in fact made my body much later. If I had come from a dark room/place then it would be accurate, but that is making an assumption for something that is not defined. There is too much to assume from the current statements and therefore they are NOT perfect.
Not to mention, there is no explanation why changing the colour temp at certain times of day changes the message seen.
-
If I say to you, "you're running a bit late, aren't you?", rhetorically, I could mean any number of things, from mild surprise or to annoyance at someone's tardiness etc, or, I could be sarcastically insulting your intelligence. Context and explanation are important but, unfortunately, you will find little of that here.
-
@userlux Those are much better. I think most people would understand that without have to refer to other explanations.
