CAN YOU ...... PLEASE BRING BACK MY OLD SETTINGS?
-
FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS I WAS USING YOUR OLDER VERSION UNTIL TODAY THAT I DID A BAD DECISION AND UPDATED THE SOFTWARE, ALL MY SETTING HAS GONE AND I DONT REMEMBER WHAT LIGHT SETTINGS I HAD.
WHY AFTER UPDATE ALL SETTING WILL RESET?[Post edited to remove profanity, the forum is read by people of all ages. Keep it family friendly. -admin]

So, um, yeah -- what just happened, exactly?
I didn't manually update anything. But suddenly it's all different, and I can barely even view this text on my monitor as I type it. And it's getting worse -- darker and darker -- by the minute.
Like the above poster (although I'll keep my message family-friendly!), I have no idea which settings got erased/changed, or why.
More disturbing is that I seem to have been updated to some new version without any action on my part. Please let me know if this is an expected behavior of the program. If I agreed to auto-updates when installing, that's fine -- I just want to know.
For now I'm going to disable the program, which until now had been a visual lifesaver. If there's no satisfactory response here, I'll be uninstalling ASAP.
Thanks -- and sorry to lose you if I must...

@bmc112 So, never mind. I figured out what you guys did. The "Install updates automatically" option is set by default. Or maybe I clicked that option when I installed your program back in the day. I have no idea at this point. If it my was my doing, then my bad.
Either way, it sure did "update," all right.
For all I know, your new upgrade may be God's gift to humans who stare at computer screens. But you gave me no indication that any change was happening, besides a confusing "Limited Color Mode" dialogue that suddenly appeared out of nowhere tonight, and a monitor that got increasingly hard to view.
Meanwhile, my original settings are gone. The view I was used to is gone. The coloring my to which my eyes had grown accustomed is gone. I have no idea now what configurations I set when I installed the program. I just know that I worked at them, and I liked them, and I got used them, and now I'm sitting here floundering to get them back. With absolutely no hint what they were.
Here's what your program should have done: You should have nagged me all this time to help you out with a PayPal donation. I loved your software, and I'd have helped you out if I realized you were donationware. What you shouldn't have done is "upgraded" without notice, wiped out everyone's settings and visual customs, and forced us to work it all again from scratch.
Thanks.

Also, your "upgrade" moved your icon from my Windows 10 overflow-notification area onto the main taskbar.
Don't do that anymore.
You wasted more of my time by having to search for fixes like this: http://www.brucebnews.com/2017/03/windows-10-tip-drag-icons-into-the-notification-area-on-the-taskbar/

@bmc112@signup_to_say_this Alright, general guideline settings:Old v3 default color temp = 3400K Halogen (brighter white than classic incandescent bulbs. Even regular halogen bulbs don't get this white.
2700K Incandescent, if you mostly use 60 or 40 watt bulbs near your screen, this is a decent setting.
I can't remember what the mid setting (sundown) for the new version is, probably 2700K, but after that, when it assumes it's a great time for you to be asleep, it goes WAY down to 1900K or maybe lower, which is candle light, a VERY STRONG amber orange (meaning closer in tone to yellow) color, and it does heavily reduce contrast.
Open the settings program, click the menu icon, and choose "Change all colors at once" to choose daytime, sunset, and finally bedtime color settings. If you want to go back to the simpler v3 setup, click the left back arrow in the program, choose the drop down menu, "classic f.lux" is what you're looking for.

Your old settings are completely preserved, aside from a "bedtime mode" that shows a darker color right before bed.
Check out this thread to see if it helps explain what's going on:
