f.lux ruining display when off.

Now I've installed f.lux, if I turn it off, my right hand monitor (primary) goes very dark. I can only describe it as turning the brightness down to 20% and putting the contrast up to 100%.
It's definitely not me, I have had this monitor for 2 years and f.lux for a week...

Hi @Matt-Morris, can you tell us a bit more about your system? Version of Windows, monitor and video card? What you're describing doesn't sound right at all.

Also here are some photos to show the change, I used GeFORCE Experience as it shows a good colour range, it is not related to the issue. Apologies for the green dot overlay my camera is picking up the pixels on the monitor. But you can see the colours are way off.As the computer starts up, with f.lux disabled on startup:

It looks to me like you're seeing default colors as opposed to altered or enhanced and saturated colors. The before photo looks like the colors are very unnatural and vivid and saturated, like when using a very high Digital Vibrance setting. The after looks like all color modifications are off and you're just seeing the default natural colors. The default natural colors looks far superior to me though because everything has the correct look. You're missing a lot with that modified/saturated appearance. Just compare the two. There are tons of details that you can see in the after photo that you can't see in the before photo.
I don't know where to go from here, but I'm hoping that this will help you track down what's happening. I'm also hoping that this will encourage you or inspire you to aim for better color accuracy as opposed to just going for an over-saturated ultra-vivid look. Don't get me wrong, I see the appeal and attraction of the over-saturated ultra-vivid look, but it kills color accuracy and prevents you from seeing lots of details.

It's like adding too much of any condiments or seasoning or spices to fully-prepared food at a very nice restaurant or something that has an excellent chef. When you get your food, it is exactly as the chef intended it to be eaten. Most chefs would be insulted if you added anything to what they prepared for you. They didn't give it to you unfinished! That overly-saturated ultra-vivid color thing you got going is like taking that great meal prepared by a good chef and drowning it in your favorite condiment(s) and/or seasoning and/or spices to the point where all you're really tasting is what you put on it. I can see the image and I recognize the game icons and I recognize the SR-71 and the desert, etc., but that saturated vivid look is overwhelming.
So, when I look at the after photo, it's honestly a relief. I can see everything exactly as it actually looks! I know it looks kinda blah and black and white in comparison, but the after photo has much better color accuracy.
The after photo to me is the third one.

@TwoCables I think you misunderstand the issue.
The 3rd image is how the monitor should look without f.lux, how it has looked for years and prior to f.lux being installed.
The first shows what f.lux has done to my display and why I can't turn it off post install. The second is with f.lux running and looks fine, it's just tinted. The last is how the display should look in the first image but the only way to achieve it is to have f.lux running but disabled.

First, f.lux is loading the profile that is specified in the Windows ICM file, and there are a couple things that could be going on.
Few questions, since the photos aren't showing the whole story (but thanks for posting them...)
- Does the monitor still look "darker" like you were describing above?
- Does either monitor look "washed out"?
- Would you say the colors are more saturated/intense in one case vs. the other?
Since you mention an LG monitor, I'll note that we've seen a lot of LG monitors with very "washed out" color profiles. So if this is the case, you might try to replace that profile for that monitor.
Otherwise I would assume that there is some kind of wide-gamut/sRGB gamut switch happening in the driver, but we'll figure that out next...

Hi @herf thanks for taking a look.
- When exactly? If I don't have f.lux running then yes, see the first photo. It's really bad.
- I don't think so, it's hard to tell because it goes from so dark. If I'm honest the colour doesn't /quite/ seem how it was before but like I say, no monitor settings have changed so I'm not sure what factory resetting it would do. It's a fairly high end monitor for 22"IPS and is pre-calibrated by LG so I'm not sure I want to mess with it. The colour has always been shit hot.
- Colours are certainly more intense before f.lux is running now. See the first photo, but that's not a good thing as it's so intense the details are lost and anything that's dark is just, black.

Found a thing (Windows, not us). There was a change in the Fall Creators update that seems to have impacted some LG monitors.
