Is there a way to change the screen brightness?

@pepe72 on the PC we added manual keys (Alt+PgDn, Alt+PgUp) - since many laptops have dedicated keys for it, this is mainly for desktop machines.
Automating this requires a very careful approach, since there are several systems fighting for it in a typical laptop, so we have not shipped a fully automatic solution yet, but we are working on one.

@pepe72 F.lux doesn't adjust the backlight brightness. It just adjusts the black level, which makes the overall color easier on the eyes, appearing darker while not actually being darker. So you need to adjust the actual brightness of your display, which is done with buttons on the monitor or on the laptop.

ooh :( In the future will it be possible to adjust the brightness? My problem is that I adjust the brightness of my monitor to the minimum, but it's not enough! it's still bright. F.lux helps me, and it would help me even more if I could lower the brightness too!

- f.lux does make some adjustments to brightness at the lowest color temperatures already, so this is one way we have built it in quietly
- Our tests for dimming on a schedule have been tricky because we want you always to be able to see your screen, so for instance if you are in a bright room it has to be easy to override. A very small number of Windows machines have good light sensors (which are probably better) but scheduled dimming also conflicts with those.

If you are setting your monitor's backlight to its lowest possible brightness, then there's absolutely nothing you can do to make the backlight any dimmer with software. The only possible option you have at that your monitor's lowest possible brightness is using something that increases the Black Level (which can also be described as reducing the White Point) which f.lux does when you tell f.lux to lower the brightness. It isn't capable of adjusting the backlight's brightness.
What is the warmest color temperature are you setting f.lux to? Maybe that's the problem. Try 800K.

Hello, are there any news regarding the possibility to adjust the backlight brightness with f.lux ?
I'm encountering the exact same issue as OP, where minimal backlight brightness level is still too bright

@Hulgore yes right now we only support "temporary" adjustments via Alt+PgDn & Alt+PgUp.

@herf is this brightness reduction using Alt+PgDn achieved via white point reduction or via overlay?

@karahbit it is not an overlay - only our vignette mode does that.
