After a system crash which necessitated a complete reinstallation the current version (v4.84) will not honor a new zip code. Insists on using the location of my VPN, which obviously isn't where I live.

Hi are you typing the zipcode before the map updates the first time? Can you try typing it again?
Also if that doesn't work there is one fix to this dialog box in the beta -
