Looking for an actual light to buy to match f.lux
-
f.lux helps me relax my eyes a lot at night, however the lightbulb on top of me has harsh blue ish tone to it.
I would like to buy a small lamp that I can use at night with a more red-orange tone. I use Dim Incandescent at night with f.lux, not sure what K value is that, moving the slider to the right next to Dim Incandescent is 2350K so I guess around that.
Anyone knows a lamp that lets you set the amount of K to get a tone that is relaxin and matches the monitor with f.lux?
Something like this:
This has RGB color so I assume you can find any colour you want, however im not sure if the intensity is fixed or you can change it too. Also apparently you can't plug it and use it at the same time which is pretty dumb:
The charging port is on the bottom. So you can’t charge and use the light at the same time. Who wants a night light you have to remember to charge? They should put the charging port on the side.
Also apparently there is a blue pilot led always on, poor design choice.
But that is the idea, a light that I can match to f.lux next to my bed, so I can turn off my main light at night.

If you can use smart lights, then I highly recommend LIFX A19 lights:
https://www.lifx.com/collections/sale/products/lifx-e26
They work with Apple HomeKit (Siri), Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Microsoft Cortana.
They can be any color you want with over 16 million colors, they can be extremely dim (I mean DIM), and they can be very bright (up to 1100 lumens, the brightest in the smart lighting industry). The brightest smart lights from other manufacturers is only 800 lumens.
In the app, you can also choose from the following color temperatures:
- 2500K
- 2750K
- 3000K
- 3200K
- 3500K
- 4000K
- 4500K
- 5000K
- 5500K
- 6000K
- 6500K
- 7000K
- 7500K
- 8000K
- 8500K
- 9000K
Personally, I use pure red at night with my LIFX A19 lights and I set f.lux to 800K. I also use a super low brightness setting. You can go from 1% all the way to 100% in increments of 1%. Believe me, 1% is extremely dim, especially when using red.
Also, f.lux can easily control LIFX lights, but there's a restriction: you can only get the lights to be any color temperature between 2500K and 9000K. Unlike the LIFX app, you get the f.lux granularity when changing the color temperature (50K increments)! So if you make a change to the color temperature in f.lux, the LIFX lights change too. They just can't go outside the range of 2500K - 9000K. When you want to go outside that range, use your device's assistant, or just use the LIFX app. Their app is fantastic.
These lights are on sale for Black Friday for $39.99 each. They're normally $59.99.

Interesting, can I install these on any regular lamp? and how is the light controlled, bluetooth or wifi?
I am paranoid about wireless stuff, I always turn everything off at night of that kind, that is why I was thinking about an actual portable lamp that is plugged in AC as usual.
It also says "Ships only to USA & Canada." and i am from france.
Thanks

It's impossible to avoid exposure to things like Wi-Fi because even if you turn off all of YOUR stuff, you still have neighbors' Wi-Fi and public Wi-Fi. So, unless you live in a Faraday Cage or miles away from other people and all civilization, you're not eliminating your exposure at all. So if you perceive a difference or benefit when you turn off your Wi-Fi, it could just be The Placebo Effect.
The lights are controlled via Wi-Fi. I think all smart lights are controlled via Wi-Fi.
There's Amazon France (I had to Google "Amazon France" to see if it exists because I don't know much about placing orders over the Internet from other countries): https://www.amazon.fr/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2/258-8866794-2402455?__mk_fr_FR=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=LIFX+19
If you'd rather order directly from LIFX, then put your mouse over "USA" at the top-right of their site and choose what you need to choose (whether that's Europe or UK, I don't really know). It's not that I assumed you're in the USA and linked you to the USA site, it's that the USA site is www.lifx.com.
These lights just go into a normal light socket. Look at the photos of the lights and you will recognize the type of base as being the standard.
The only way you're going to get what you want is by getting a smart light. (or by getting multiple smart lights to replace other lights in your home)

Do they have an internal memory and they will know at which hour they should decrease brightness and so on without the need of having my phone on 24/7 next to them?
I mean, if I make a configuration to decrease brightness at 7 pm or so, and increase at 7 am, but I am home at 10 pm.. how does it know?

All of your settings are stored in the cloud, and all manual control is done via the cloud too (which means the phone doesn't have to be anywhere near the lights in order to control them manually). So this means that you can enable the LIFX "Day & Dusk" feature, configure the schedule as needed, and then it will always work even if you turn your phone off. It's very cool! So, it honestly feels as though the settings are stored inside the lights on some sort of onboard memory, but it's all in the cloud. Even manual control is instantaneous; there's absolutely zero delay, even though the control is being done through the cloud. This also means you could control your lights manually from the other side of the planet!
When the lights change automatically, they change very slowly and gently - there are no sudden changes of color temperature or brightness. The transitions are butter-smooth and slow. It's fantastic! The only thing I don't like is, you can't choose any RGB colors with Day & Dusk; it's limited to 2500K through 9000K. Even so, you can set the brightness to anything from 1% to 100% with any color temperature 2500K - 9000K.
I prefer to use orange and red light at night though (during the last couple of hours of my day), so I just leave my phone on and ask Siri to make my lights orange or red when I want in addition to whatever brightness I want.
The LIFX app's "Day & Dusk" feature is awesome though. You have 4 different day segments you can configure:
- Wake Up
- Day
- Evening
- Night Light
You can enable and disable any of these 4. So you can have all 4 of them working for you, or only 3 of them, or only 2 of them, or just 1 of them. You can set any of them to any time you want, and you can choose any brightness level and any color temperature 2500K - 9000K.
You can also pick any or all of the 7 days of the week for when this automation occurs. For example, you could pick just Monday through Friday which would leave the weekends to manual control.
I don't use the Day & Dusk feature though due to the way I live. I only know all of this stuff because I played with the feature so that I could answer your question. I mean, while I was playing with this feature, I came up with a question that I haven't been able to answer yet: I want to know if I could have a different schedule for different days. For example, I don't see a way to have a separate schedule for the weekdays and then another schedule just for the weekends. I only see a way to pick the days that Day & Dusk applies to, meaning, just one schedule where the days I don't have selected would require manual control.
I did an experiment though to see if this is true, and it left me quite confused. The only day I selected was Friday (I was just trying to choose any day other than today to see what would happen). I was expecting all automation to be disabled since it's not Friday right now. Instead, automation is still occurring. So, I don't understand it yet. Perhaps I discovered a bug, or maybe I'm not doing something correctly. Either way, at the basic level, this Day & Dusk feature is leaving me extremely impressed. If I needed it, then I would absolutely LOVE it!
Here's a short silent video that LIFX created in February to demonstrate their Mini Day & Dusk light:

This give a good overview of how the Day & Dusk feature in the app works.

Recently I bought myself a moon light and I am in love with it. I placed it on my bedside table as I wanted. It has different color options, so I guess you will find a match to f.lux. Here is a guide for you, that will show you pros and cons of it https://geeklah.com/best-moon-lamp.html
Hope it helped:) -
Have you tried the blue light blocking light bulbs from Harth? www.harthyourhome.com
