If he were to re-arrange the menus the way you are asking for, then the main menu would be a big mess.

I cannot assess how effort would be necessary to program an option for the sub menus, named "Show this sub menu in the main menu!". This leads not necessarily to a big mess but to more user friendliness.
No matter I very appreciate the work of the programmer of f.lux.

Yeah, I can't either because I wouldn't even know how to create Hello World. I would imagine though that it would be a huge undertaking because those other menu options have to be created so that they exist. So, he has to come up with new menus. Then he has to create and intelligently place options for switching to those menus.

is it worth it? It might seem like it, but really, this isn't exactly something that's in high demand. With how busy he is, he has to prioritize what is more important for the majority of the users.

I spent a half our or so attempting to get v4 to work the same way v3 does, which is to slightly redden my display beginning at sunset and until I shut down the computer. No amount of tinkering with v4 seems to emulate this simple behavior. I must be missing something. In addition to selecting the "classic f.lux" setting, how can I get v4 to just do what v3 did so well, and no more?

          Thanks!

          David

I don't understand. If you have set your Location and if you have Classic F.lux selected and if you have your preferred color temperature selected, then it should work. What is it doing that you don't like? Can you explain it in detail?

I hate this new version. It is complicated and the colors are weird. The older version was so beautifully simple. Can I go back to the previous version?

@julieanne I had the same response. Just uninstall the new version, re-install the old version, and you'll be good to go.

@julieanne Click on the F.lux icon on the taskbar, choose "Classic f.lux" from the drop-down list on the upper right side.

@Bushido "Classic flux" on version 4 doesn't fully emulate v3.

@TwoCables After playing with its settings, I, anyway, was unable to get it to function like v3. I want only a small shift away from the daylight setting, and I want that to go from sunset to sunrise, with no third color. I couldn't get that to stick - the color I set when I checked the next day was redder than it had been, and I had to set it again - so I downgraded.

@David-J.-Bookbinder Thanks. It was a relief to see my simple, subtle old flux there this morning.

@Bushido That didn't really do it. The colors weren't the same as the true classic, and all the new options remained.

@julieanne I feel the same way. Make sure you turn off autoupdate, or you'll be back to v4 again.

@David-J.-Bookbinder @julieanne We aren't supporting the v3 of f.lux, so if you do go back to it, video driver updates may break it. We'd prefer for people to use the "classic f.lux" option in v4, which is the same functionality and will be updated. Likewise we are reviewing the v4 controls to better understand how to make this more palatable for the old guard. Cheers.

@lorna If I had been able to get Classic f.lux to function like v3, I would, of course, have used it. But I was unable to do that. Perhaps you can provide instructions on how, after selecting Classic f.lux, we can actually get it to use two words user-selectable colors (for daylight and after sunset), and work off sunrise and sunset, and retain these settings. I couldn't get v4 to do that.

                                Thanks,
                                David

@David-J.-Bookbinder Thanks for the feedback - I'm reviewing both the product settings and the quickstart instructions in the next week. I know you've posted about this before, but can you (and this goes for everyone who isn't happy with the update) kindly help me understand exactly what you're running into trouble with? Setting your custom daytime and night time settings isn't working for you in v4, is that right?

@lorna I don't recall the exact sequence, just that it was not apparent how I could get v4 to sync with sunrise and sunset and to allow me to set a color temperature for both time periods. This is very easy in c3, as you know. From a user point of view, Classic f.lux should display the old interface and functionality. Otherwise it's not "classic.' I've been using software since 1981, so if it's possible, it's not obvious to an experienced user and wasn't worth more time than I spent to try harder to get it to work.
