joining this convo...
same issues. running sierra. downloaded / trashed current and old versions of flux multiple times, no activity monitor reading, no menu bar icon, nothing.
sadly, apple's nightshift works just fine.
-
@matthcurtis Which version of Sierra? Thanks for any details you can provide.
-
@lorna 10.12.5. thanks for the quick response.
-
@matthcurtis Can you tell me if "Flux" is running in Activity Monitor? Did it ever work for you previously? And love to know more about your hardware.
-
@lorna Flux has previously showed up under the "Energy" tab in activity monitor, but has been greyed out with strikethroughs in all of categories except one (can't remember which one). It is not currently showing anywhere in activity monitor.
Have been using flux successfully for a couple of years now. Have had a few of the more normal bugs, like the video artifacts, but have never had it just not open.
Late 2013 13-inch Macbook Pro, Retina, 8GB 1600 DDR3, 2.4 Ghz Intel i5, Intel Iris 1536 MB graphics card.
-
Can you open the Console app and search for "Flux"?
-
@herf yup. getting, among other lines, this:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSCFArray componentsSeparatedByString:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x6000000d32b0'
-
Ok I posted a possible fix here:
https://justgetflux.com/mac/Flux39.983.zipThis bug should not have appeared unless you first installed f.lux once using a really old version, like from 2010.
Thanks @matthcurtis for the help.
-
Thanks to everyone's help in fixing this issue!

Hi there!
I have the same problem. I installed the programme and the icon shows up. I could set up my personal information (location) and wake up time. Now the programme is running as it should.
BUT I can not open the programme any more. If I double klick it nothing happens. If anyone could help I would be pleased but, please, in the most simplest words possible (a) I normally speak Swiss, and b) I am not so into technical language)
Thanks!Nicole

@La_Nicci Can you see which version you have? Spotlight will tell you or you can do Cmd-I on Flux.app.
-
I do not know if that is what you mean. It says version 39.983.
-
Oh, if the icon appears you can access f.lux by clicking the icon, no need to run the app again:

Morning Herf
That is the very problem. If I click on the icon nothing happens. -
@La_Nicci can you post a screenshot of what you're clicking? I want to make sure we are talking about the same thing.
-
@lorna I think it is not my lucky day. Now I can't copy the pic form my notebook in the post. C&P does not work, just url allowed.
Greetings from a stupid girl, hahah :-) -
... but the icon that you have as an avatar, Lorna, is visible on my sidebar.
-
I'm having the same problem on Windows 10. I click on the icon and it doesn't open. It doesn't appear in the task bar and it's not running in task manager.

Yes, it's weird. The application shows up in the task manager and in the listed software. But nothing happens. Unfortunately I could not check last night if flux dimmed the light at night (was not on the notebook). Did you check that already?
-
@La_Nicci For Preferences you will want to click a black and white icon at the very top of your screen. Also, it might be a good time to reboot your computer!
