Anyway, I'm very happy to see a product like this! I have two floor lamps in my room that I would love to replace with something better, and these lamps will very likely be those replacements.
What I'd like to see is a lamp exactly like this that can also go pure red. :)

I told you it wouldn't take that long! Couldn't resist but really if this can really take off then we're in great shape.

No, no, no, this doesn't mean I was wrong. These kinds of changes take years and years and years. I wasn't saying that the invention and selling of lights like this was years away. You misunderstood me entirely. It's going to be YEARS before even 25% of the world prefers to use lighting like this, before even 25% of the world knows what we know and cares just as much as we do.
There are over 7 billion people on this planet, and the human animal is a creature of habit. Changes to the way people live and the way people think take a very long time. Just because inventions like this exist, it doesn't mean that we're done. This is just the beginning of a VEERRRYYY long journey.

@arioda Hey I've got a question about the quality of the higher color temperature light.
On the website you (or somebody on the team) wrote that you purchased commercial LEDs in bulk to reduce cost and then you got special stuff for the warmer light.
I'm hoping you'll make the whiter light not much higher than 6000K as some led lights can put off too much blue or a lot of times a purple white.
You hopefully have enough time to adjust the LEDs so that they don't have any odd tint and it would really make the light even more special! Thank you for helping design a beautiful lamp that I desperately want.
One more thing, can you design a version that gets even brighter? It would help in offices and areas where there isn't much natural light, maybe it could just use double the LEDs and use 60 watts.
Edit: I understand 2,400 lumens is a very large amount of light, especially from a lamp so the light make need to be a different design entirely for this to make sense. -

All you have to do is look at history. Our history shows that big changes like this require the masses to be educated and convinced. Even then, the majority will fight hard to keep their current ways of thinking and their current lighting preferences, etc.
I guess what I'm really saying is, it's going to be a long time before the Average Joe knows what we know and cares about it as much as we do.

@timpster Nice analysis and helpful suggestions. The upper end of the scale LEDs are 6500K though I would not say purply. I was checking out the light again last night and pulled out a couple of Pantone color fans and the rending is pretty good. Besides, you can tell it to only go to 6000K or 5500K at it's peak. We are talking about bigger power supply and more LEDs for during the day. At night, 2000+ lm of 1800K is hella bright. During the day, can't get enough. We hacked a double bright version for our product video and it works in this form factor and with the shading and big diffusers, not too bad but there is that pesky cost issue. We could have a separate SKU.

@TwoCables I hate to mention other product though you can spring for an LIFX bulb and do that. I have one in my office I have to manually tune at night. All red is not so much fun. Cool for a while, makes me think of Das Boot. Alaaarm! Anyway, we'd love it if you care to push the process along a bit and order even just one :) We have to shamelessly promote whenever we an to make this thing go!!

I have an issue with using this quote because he completely misunderstood me. I wasn't saying that it would be decades before we see things like your kickstarter. I was saying that it would be decades before the Average Joe no longer wants the kind of artificial lighting that we have today, but instead ONLY wants 100% healthy artificial lighting. So I was saying that it would be decades before the Average Joe knows what we know and cares about it just as much as we do. This is only the very beginning and we have a long way to go. There are presently over 7 billion people on this planet - and counting. The vast majority of them still have no clue and are VERY set in their ways. You can't change the world in one generation either. Getting the world to change the kind of artificial lighting it uses is going to take time. It will also require education for WHY they should stop using today's current artificial lighting.
I'm 36 years old. I will be surprised (pleasantly so) if I live long enough to see a world where the only kind of artificial lighting you can buy is 100% healthy lighting and where the only kind of artificial lighting used commercially and in city lights is 100% healthy lighting - as well as the kind that doesn't cause light pollution in the sky. Like I said, the world doesn't change overnight; it's going to take a few generations.

@TwoCables I have a LOT of thoughts about this - you're right that it takes a long time to change hearts and minds, and it is definitely a huge boat to turn so it's slow.
I feel like the big thing is for people to re-learn how to know when their bodies are tired. This has been a problem since Edison stole fire (from Heinrich Goebel, ha) and gave it to humanity. Even since we first launched f.lux there has been a huge change. Mike likes to say there's not a lot of common sense about this stuff because everyone's biology is just different enough that there's no one right answer for 100% of the time.
When I see cheap (bright blue) night lighting brought to developing nations I want to cry, but then, many of these people had no lighting before. And there's a multibillion dollar industry that's very happy to ignore the growing evidence of how health is affected by the wrong kind of light.
Some people understand the importance of light - I find those who live in northern climates get it (Ario is based in Seattle - a city that understands the importance of light to health). How we get real progress, and get it everywhere? We can't do it overnight (see what I did there) but we are going to do it, and you are already a part of this movement.
So, challenge accepted. There's a lot to do.

@TwoCables NP, had to ask. We are doing everything we can in good conscience to spread the word and get people interested. I'm 64 and hoping to living long enough to see that same world. My partners are much younger so not too worried about them being available to carry the torch after I quit in 10 or 20 years

@timpster I can only post every couple hours. We can dim pretty smoothly down to zero, like 1% I think and more importantly up from it. My experience with Hue is that it lurches on like at 20% and does weird color things on the way up. If you wanted to so a hack to make a lamp to do what we do and be able to turn it off and on again with Hue, you would have trouble and it would be expensive with several like four bulbs to be as bright well OK with four bulbs it would be brigher than ours is now maybe. Their higher CCT output is pretty weeny.

I own the Hue lights, and I was thinking that the price is reasonable as it's about 4x as bright. The color spectrum is also listed in the "fluxometer" it's in the menu that starts out "iPad 2" and it's one from the very bottom of the list, so you may need to keep the menu open and scroll down. Yes the spectrum is VERY low in blue, and too high in what looks like a purplish color. That's why I brought up the concern for the color, and knowing that it will look good, and I can chooose where I want it is great!
I'm definitely getting two lamps (but I want 5 or 10!!). I'll even let
some ofall of my birthday money go towrads it, just to sweeten the deal and not break the bank. Thank you for the quick and informative answers, this is great!Also, I just upvoted a few of your posts, because they are great, and also to get you out of the time limit for posting when you would like.
