Question about night shift and f.lux use
-
I was wondering if i should just be using normal settings on f.lux if i am a night shift worker or would it be better to swap them. I usually work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and don't go to bed till 2-3 p.m. then wake up at 9 p.m.
I also keep to the same sleep schedule during the weekend so I am usually up all night playing games or working on projects on my computer in a dark room so I am a bit confused on what I should be doing with the settings and what is best for the health of my eyes and sleep schedule.

Just use f.lux to help you avoid blue light during the last 2-3 hours or so of your day. So, let f.lux help you avoid blue light starting at like noon or 1 or so. You need to give your body enough time to start producing melatonin so that you can fall asleep easier and get a better quality of sleep. Don't forget to also reduce the brightness of all light that you can see during the end of your day, including the brightness of your monitor.
When you're awake, you can allow 6500K to be blasted at you.
The time of day is irrelevant, just as long as you're consistent with both the sleep and wake time and also your light exposure.
This is all you really need to know.

When you're not on the night shift are you more of a night owl or early bird?
Also how much time do you spend outside and when is it? (commute at 6am but only certain times of the year?)
Paying attention to your light exposure can help you feel tired earlier or later, so if you know which direction you want to go, you may be able to adjust the lighting (and f.lux) to suit.

Id say I am more of a night owl but because of the schedule I still try to keep to it and go to bed at 3-4 p.m(I have been working night shift for 6 years straight almost). at the latest and then wake up at midnight. I rarely go outside other than for food and bills but i should be taking more walks when i get off of work.

I have recently started working night shift, 8pm-6:30am and try and be in bed around 10am. I have tried to find a location that is almost 12 different from my current time as I keep my computer room fairly bright at night. I found having flux turn on around sunrise is best for me as I start to avoid the sun and hopefully trick my body into thinking it's close to bed time.
Since you stay up later, I would look for a time zone that triggers flux a few hours before you go to bed, and as I am sure you do, draw those curtains closed and dim those lights around the same time.I really wish flux just had a time offset feature for us night people.
