Disable "firelight before bed"?
-
Today Flux updated to the new version, I'd like to know if there is a way to disable the red screen that happens during night time. Is there at least a way to customize it and making it less red? To me something like this is useless since I go to sleep at different hours everyday, and it seems annoying having to manually change my "wake time" in flux everyday.
If I don't want this red screen, do I have to go back to version 3 so that I can have only the normal warm color (I set it at 3400k) at sunset and night?
Also, in the options I can choose between the transiction times slow, medium, and very fast, but how many minutes/seconds are we talking here? It's not specified anywhere...

All you have to do is customize the colors for each of the 3 modes. I don't go to sleep at the same time every day nor do I wake up at the same time every day. I sleep when I feel like it, and I wake when I feel like it. So here's how I use f.lux:
I don't allow it to start with Windows (I edited the Registry for that). Instead, I have all 3 modes set to my preferred warm color temperature (800K). When I am about to begin getting ready to wind down for the last couple of hours before going to sleep, I want 800K. So, I launch f.lux and it goes straight to 800K.
That's it. That's all I do and it works beautifully that way. I don't let f.lux do anything automatically, but I can't let it do anything automatically either since I sleep when I feel like it and wake up when I feel like it (the time I go to sleep or wake up is unpredictable - it just happens when I make it happen).
So, just go into the f.lux menu and choose "Adjust all colors at once".

Thank you so much, I had no idea of what the setting "adjust all colors at once" was supposed to do.
I had read the setting, the options, the FAQs page and the new version notes and yet I don't feel like they explain everything properly. The new interface needs to be explained more.

So, you're saying you clicked on the option called "Adjust all colors at once" but you weren't sure what those 3 individual color temperature adjustments were for?
-
I just didn't click on that, it didn't cross my mind that "all colors at once" were supposed to be the three different colors during the different times of day.
Initially I was trying to move the lines in the graph with my mouse, thinking I could adjust them like this, but by clicking there it showed only the 24 hours preview. -

Initially I was trying to move the lines in the graph with my mouse, thinking I could adjust them like this, but by clicking there it showed only the 24 hours preview.Perhaps it would have helped if this menu item had "..." after it so that it read "Adjust all colors at once...". This would clearly indicate that there's more, which is consistent with everything else in Windows. Right now, it just looks like a menu item that does something the instant you click it. So, I think this was an oversight on their part.

Also the "classic f.lux" mode will do what you asked for.
With this preset, we don't turn off the adjustment, but we set "sunset" and "bedtime" to the same number. And it may work better if your wake time is set correctly.
Also, this feature may make more sense during the winter, because many people want a "less intense" setting when the sun sets early, but your body gets much more sensitive to bright light before bed, so the two settings work together to do both things.
We dialed up the defaults pretty far because these are intended mostly to happen when you're nearly going to bed, so we are kind of suggesting a level that will minimize the impact before bed, but you can also just move the slider whenever you don't like it.

He can't use the wake time because as he said, he doesn't have a consistent schedule.

Well, right now I set the "sunset" and "bedtime" to almost the same colour with no problem.
It's a little annoying to have the messages that alert me every 30 minutes that I wake up in X hours. I could just change my wake up hour every day but in the old version I neever needed to touch anything or do any "daily mainteinance". I wish I could disable those alerts.
In the meanwhile I'll have to consider if it's better to me to go back to version 3 or stay with version 4.

There are some tips about that and other things over here:
