Just thought of something! My monitor with Darkroom doesn't seem to have good contrast. The red has a .... not pink but, not quite as warm red as I want. Also Black is a strong gery with a bluish tint. CCFL lit.
Do you have an idea of what monitor type I should choose (maybe VA panel) to get really good contrast, and better black levels? Currently have a TN panel.
I'll just add this here, I'm visually impaired and the text on this page is seriously tiny.
When I zoom in to comfortable levels (which is about 5 scrolls upward from 0 in firefox) the submit button gets erased, and I have to go back down 3 scrolls to submit. I figured I better put this here now so you have time to work on it early. Thank you for the forum, this is just awesome. -
Newer TN panels can have good contrast, but they don't look as good from an angle.
Luckily the cheaper IPS panels are good at all angles and still have good blacks. PVA isn't used by very many companies anymore.
What you probably want is a flicker-free dimming monitor, so the backlight can dim without PWM. The best way to have good blacks is to make less light.

I cannot state how strongly I agree with this!!
I have astigmatism, and that flicker just loves to scream at my eyes!
ASUS / BenQ (they seem to really be competing against each other) make monitors with the DC dimming, and are VA panels. I'm not aware of other monitors that strongly promote the DC / anti flicker dimming like they do.
