Green Light and Pain
-
I've seen some research that indicates that migraine pain and chronic pain can be helped by the use of Green Light. I was wondering if there is a way to have f.lux "fade" to green instead of the (to me at least) default red tones. I know I can use the Emerald Green profile but that doesn't seem "sticky".
Thanks!
Matt
P.S. If anyone is curious I've linked to an article that is a good starting place, while the site might be biased to sell LEDs they do link to scholarly articles

He means that it's not a permanent setting.

I recommend using good smart lights and set them to green for an hour or two a few nights per week (after all, this is all about green light therapy). My personal recommendation is LIFX lights. Their A19 and BR30 lights have the highest maximum brightness in the smart lighting industry of 1100 lumens (for those times when you need the brightness), and they have the best colors as well. You can choose any brightness from 0 to 100% in increments of 1%. I'm using the green light right now (I just said, "Hey Siri, set the lights to green"), and I'm loving it. I can go into the LIFX app though and choose any kind of green I want from the color wheel that has over 16 million colors.
You should also consider a good magnesium supplement. I don't mean Magnesium Oxide either (Magnesium Oxide is worthless and it doesn't do anything for anyone). I mean something more along the lines of Magnesium Bisglycinate, particularly the stuff made by BioSchwartz. Not only is their magnesium just about the best there is, but they put it in extremely tiny capsules. It's impossible to have problems swallowing them!
Anyway, unfortunately no, there is no way to make f.lux use green instead when it goes into Night or Bedtime mode.

The study you mention about green light is measuring light in a way I would not recommend - all the measurements are normalized to "luminance". Because they measure in cd/m2 and not equal photons, I believe they are testing 20x as much blue light as green, so it is not conclusive at all - if you are using 20 times as many photons you'd certainly expect it to make pain worse.
We have more work to do in understanding when people experience the greatest light sensitivity due to migraine, which is why there is no schedule for headaches in f.lux right now, even for removing blue light.
The few studies that have looked at the times of migraine suggest that the first half of the day is the most sensitive, but other people report that it ramps up later in the day.
If we can understand how to automate it, we will, but for now perhaps the right answer is to make the manual controls easier to use in the meantime.
