Using Flux as a late sleeper
-
Hi everyone.
I love flux been using it for ages however I go to sleep at 3am and I tend to be work up until 23-24.
The screens being tinted for a good 7 hours of my day and i'm wondering if it'd be a good idea to lessen the tint from the reccomended colours since I think it might be affecting my alertness while working.Cheers for any suggestions!.

The new version 4 allows you to set your bedtime, I think. The old version (3), you could perhaps offset your location that is in a timezone where your sleep hours would be "normal". If you're in NY, for example, you could set it to Los Angeles (or Hawaii).
You made me realize something though... I personally don't use flux based on my circadian rhythm; I mostly use it based on ambient light. If it's a very dull day, for example, I'll use something like 3500k even during peak daylight hours.

The "Recommended Colors" preset is not for people with your schedule. You'll have to configure f.lux to fit you better. You can have any color temperature you want whenever you want.

Thanks for the responses!
Dazgogo: Cheers, yeah it lets you set your bedtime so it'll always go candlelight an hour(or two?) beforehand, but it still changes the colour all throughout the night. I'm just wondering if that could be affecting my wakefullness when i'm working at night.
Twocables:Thanks, do you have any reccomendations on what I should use or should I set it to daylight?.

I don't know. Personally, I don't use a warm color temperature until I'm ready to begin getting ready to go to sleep. So while I'm awake, it's 6500K for me. I don't see any reason or need to use warm color temperatures while I'm awake.

Yes, if you set your wake time, this version is designed to work right for you. It will only use the most intense setting before bed, which is a good cue to go offline soon, and a good way to help your circadian timing.
Then, you can use a more gentle setting at sundown (like >4000K) so that the colors aren't as much affected.
Research suggests that if you feel alert and awake, you actually are. But it takes some time for light to affect you, so if you can make a change and you like how you feel 30 minutes later, you've probably done the right thing.

Twocables: Cool, thanks for the response, i'm gonna try sticking to just daylight colours(barring the intense setting before bed), for a few days and see how that makes me feel.
Herf: Thank you, as said above I'll try setting it to daylight for most of my night to see how that makes me feel, I get most of my work done then so I need to be alert.

I think it'll work well since you're allowing yourself at least 3 hours to unwind before going to sleep.
