Turns itself off every minute or so

Long time user from back when it was a jailbreak tweak for the iPhone 4S.
V4.126, on latest RTX 2080 Ti driver. For some reason on Windows 10 it's started to not work every minute or so, and then if I open it in taskbar it suddenly starts working again, for about a minute. I've fiddled with most settings to no avail and it's driving me nuts. Tried reinstalling it too. As far as I can remember it started immediately after I accidentally touched the temp slider, but it's possible it happened around the time I last updated the GPU driver, a week or two ago. Not sure if this is normal behavior but when I check location setting it defaults to New York.
Anything I should try next?

@Coltoh nvidia control panel has "desktop color settings" adjustments - can you check that "reference mode" is turned off? and most things are set to defaults?

@herf Just confirmed reference mode is not on and everything seems to be default in those settings
