Version 3 to 4 Upgrade

@darienlake I will send you a private message with more information directly

I just went through and tested most of the new features in the upgrade. I just wanted to pass along that I really like the idea of the vignette mode, however, it fails on my dual-monitor workstation. It is only working on monitor #1.
I have two additional dual-monitor workstations at home that I have NOT checked yet, but wanted to pass this along sooner rather than later. Thanks for a great product.

Hi) Im using the XWidget, and since the new upgrade is installed, area around the widgets is brighter. How to fix that. In old version everythink was fine.
-
@Taras-Gryshko likely that everything will be better after you reboot. we emulate some effects on the GPU until then.
-
@herf Yes it is) Tooday everythink is ok)

I think "disable for fullscreen" should ignore windows lock screen (after win+L).
First, because then room with display highlights with blue color.
Second, because after logon I see transition (I like slow transition, but not here).
It is not even "app" in my, end user, mind, it just windows itself. -
@Nahtanoj-Tarp-Aicrag I agree with the lack of 1-click access to Movie Mode. Possibly the most inconvenient change was hiding it in a sub-menu with no way of bringing it back as a main option. Maybe include a way to favorite colors and effects to make them show up when you right-click?

i hate this new version of the app i liked how simple the older version was version 4.55 is really hard to use just like how verizon just recently forced me to update my verizon mobile cause they dropped support for version 10 which was better and easier to use

One thing i don't like is the lack of 1-click access (or hotkey) to my most commonly used options
I agree to this opinion. I miss the formerly 1-click-access to "Disable until sunrise". Now I have move the mouse cursor through the tiny menu. Very, very annoying for me, so I downgrade to the latest version with this 1-click-access.

Just press Alt+End.

Unfortunately shortcuts are no solution for me. I'm a human. My mind can only store 284 shortcuts. The memory for shortcuts in my mind is already full from all the other programs. Now only simple mouse clicks are useful.
The new features in v4 are absolutely useless for me. Therefore I went back to v3. -

@TwoCables Thanks but Alt+End = Disable flux for 1 hour.
What I am (we are, apparently) asking are shortcuts AND/OR 1-click access AND/OR adding a way to fav useful options such as movie mode, vignette mode (or Disable untile sunrise for Mr Benuzar). The bad move was to hide them in submenus.
The good move would have been to let them accessible AND/OR to add shortcut access to those options. For instance :
Alt+F11 = Movie mode,
Alt+F12 = Vignette mode
Alt+suppr = Disable till sunrise -
@Nahtanoj-Tarp-Aicrag
Full agree to your suggestions. -

Alt+Del is taken by Ctrl+Alt+Del. If f.lux had Alt+Del as a keyboard shortcut, then anytime someone pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del, f.lux would react to the Alt+Del part.
With a program like f.lux, it's imperative to create keyboard shortcuts that aren't taken by anything else. That's not easy to do in a program like f.lux.
If he were to re-arrange the menus the way you are asking for, then the main menu would be a big mess. Think about it. He put a huge amount of time and thought into it and has tried very hard to clean up the main menu.
If you stay with v3, just realize that it will never again be updated. Ever.

@TwoCables Oh it doesn't matter, those were just examples.
Alt, shift, Ctrl+whatever would be just fine. -

Alt, shift, Ctrl+whatever would be just fine.Right, but this conversation has been had on here dozens of times with a lot of people. Every single time Herf has had time to respond, he says the same thing: finding keyboard shortcuts that aren't taken by some popular program is next to impossible. So, that's why f.lux is set up the way it's set up. He has done the best that he can do.
He is considering maybe allowing for the creation of custom keyboard shortcuts, but really, this is something that's only being asked for by a handful of people, and f.lux has hundreds of thousands of users.

I cannot assess how effort would be necessary to program an option for the sub menus, named "Show this sub menu in the main menu!". This leads not necessarily to a big mess but to more user friendliness.
No matter I very appreciate the work of the programmer of f.lux. -

No matter I very appreciate the work of the programmer of f.lux.Yeah, I can't either because I wouldn't even know how to create Hello World. I would imagine though that it would be a huge undertaking because those other menu options have to be created so that they exist. So, he has to come up with new menus. Then he has to create and intelligently place options for switching to those menus.
is it worth it? It might seem like it, but really, this isn't exactly something that's in high demand. With how busy he is, he has to prioritize what is more important for the majority of the users.

I spent a half our or so attempting to get v4 to work the same way v3 does, which is to slightly redden my display beginning at sunset and until I shut down the computer. No amount of tinkering with v4 seems to emulate this simple behavior. I must be missing something. In addition to selecting the "classic f.lux" setting, how can I get v4 to just do what v3 did so well, and no more?
Thanks!
