That was ridiculous...

Flux has been perma-installed on all of my machines for years and I greatly appreciate that you guy(s) developed it and that you offer it for free. But the fact that "auto install updates" is on my default, and that you just pushed out such a radical update, is rather crazy.
I mean... I might not have minded so much, except for the fact that it was impossible for me to figure out how to just keeping things the same (I tend to manually change the settings a lit), and I could have explored the new options at my leisure at a later point.
I had to uninstall version 4 and reinstall 3 (making sure to uncheck the auto install updates). But to so, I had to reboot, and I was in the middle of coding some stuff, which meant I had to shut down virtual machines, my IDE, SSH connections to servers, etc. etc. Quite the hassle.
KISS is a good acronym to remember when it comes to software. Keep It Simple, Stupid!

There's a configuration area in v4 called "Adjust all colors at once". You access it via the f.lux menu. It allows you to adjust the 3 color temperature settings for the 3 f.lux modes individually (daytime, nighttime and bedtime). If you keep 'bedtime' and 'nighttime' the same color temperature, then it's identical to f.lux v3.

@herf @TwoCables In the interest of UI clarity: "Adjust all colors at once" is confusing. Naming of f.lux elements could be done better. TwoCables has presented the idea of "modes" which could be even better as "segments" or "periods" or "zones" or something to do with the daytime periods when f.lux applies color adjustments.
Using "Adjust all colors at once" is also misleading and would be better as, "Adjust individual color segments" (or modes , periods, zones or something).

No, they are modes. I'm not presenting any of my own ideas. F.lux has a daytime mode, a night mode, and a bedtime mode.
"Adjust individual color segments" would be more confusing. Perhaps "Adjust each mode individually..."?

@TwoCables "Adjust Individual Modes", then.
I think "modes" is imperfect but you've chosen it, so stick with it from the documentation all the way through to the UI. -

I think "modes" is imperfect but you've chosen it, so stick with it from the documentation all the way through to the UI.No, I didn't choose anything. I'm going by their nomenclature. I'm just another f.lux fan like everyone else on here. I'm just a user.
To be honest, I don't really care what they call it. All that matters to me is I understand how this program works and how to use it. I don't want to nit-pick over these little things. It's their program, so they can type whatever they want on the UI and it won't matter much to me as long as I understand it. Fortunately, I do understand it all, and so I am able to use the program in the way that I want to and that's all that really matters to me.

Yes, after like dozens of UI revisions with all the controls visible, we hid this on purpose, because most people just can't choose the colors they want to see 12 hours from now - it's basically impossible. It's better to make the change when you're in the room at that time, feeling however you are.
If you're an expert user setting up a new machine, you can use all three sliders at once, but most people would be better off just clicking the f.lux icon and adjusting it a few times until it's how they prefer.
We also made the presets (the top-right menu) so that some of the common cases are covered, and we are updating them as we learn more about what people want. Let us know if you think it would be better to make them prominent, but we decided that first, the slider should be the easiest thing to change.

So, I was crafting a better reply, but apparently my session timed out? Anyway.
I can understand wanting it to be as easy to adjust as possible on the fly, but for planning ahead, not being able to access the options is pretty annoying. You shouldn't hide it from the people who want it. "Adjust all colors at once" is super confusing, because "All colors" makes it sound like you're adjusting everything to be the same? and "At once" seems to imply the TRANSITION would be immediate, not giving the user access to all colors at once.
A 'plan ahead" or "advanced options" menu would be more accurate. I was fumbling around, and actively AVOIDING the menu because of not knowing what it was., so I came to the forums trying to figure out how to adjust it, lol.I saw another comment you had about the beta, and I appreciate the change from 'change color' to 'change current color' and adding "Extra" to "color modes and effects," that helps a lot.

Also, re: this part - It would be cool to have a label on this drop down menu, like '"Preset schedules" or something. I see the "reduce eyestrain" in two categories thing was remedied, so that's a lot less confusing, but it's still not super clear how they work. I like to take the presets, and tweak them, so making the ability to do so more ovious, like 'these are starting points' would be awesome.
Also, mostly just want to be able to set the time more accurately, like 'when I need to go to bed' vs. 'when I need to be up' because not everyone has the same schedule etc.,, but I'm going to explore to see if that's something I can do

The beta version I posted yesterday says "Adjust day and night colors together..."
It will need an editing pass to reduce the word count, but I'm trying to fix it. :)
