Manual control only

All i want to do is manually dim my screens brightness with the "Alt+pg down" command. I don't want any automatic colour changing at any time of day or for any app or program, fullscreen or otherwise. Is there any way to achieve this with f.lux?
I've tried disabling f.lux until sunrise in the settings, and then dimming the screen with the command, but that always seems to reset itself if after a few minutes (besides, i don't want to have to do that everyday).

You can try ClickMonitorDDC. F.lux doesn't actually adjust the backlight brightness, it just changes the black level. ClickMonitorDDC actually adjusts the backlight brightness.

Dive into this program and if it works, you will be floored by how convenient and easy it is to use after you've set it up.

Thanks for that, @TwoCables. Unfortunately that programs lowest setting (0 brightness and 0 contrast) is a little bit brighter than f.lux can manage (even if f.lux isn't really dimming the back light).
It is easy really easy to use though (just scroll while hovering over a notification area icon), so I will probably use it if there is no way to make f.lux work how I want. -
You're welcome.
Alt+Page Down is the only way to get f.lux to increase the black level.
ClickMonitorDDC can enable you to hold down keys on your keyboard while you scroll to change the brightness too. You can also set up keyboard shortcuts to adjust the brightness in various ways (static values, or increments). You can also create menu entries in ClickMonitorDDC's Notification Area icon context menu.
I will say though that if you need to reduce your brightness THAT MUCH, then that tells me you are using your computer in total darkness. If that's true, then I recommend that you stop doing so and turn on some lights. It is not safe for human eyes for extended periods of time and you might regret it later in life. Plus, turning on some lights makes your eyes more comfortable, and that makes your present more pleasant (rhyme not intended).

@twocables I have a similar concern, but I'm trying to remap the brightness controls since my laptop with ClickMonitorDDC (or using its native backlight controls) still doesn't get dark enough. You noted that if @Judofist were having issues, then they should turn on some lights. I use Hue lights and I keep them them confortably dim at night, which mind you is not too dark. I recently bought a new laptop that does not have PgUp/PgDn (previous one does) and without the dimming I can't get the screen comfortably dark enough. Is there no way to edit/remap the controls?

No, there isn’t. I don’t expect Michael to provide such controls either because there isn’t anywhere near enough demand for it. Not only that, but he’s trying to avoid having to provide extra support for people who change their key mappings with such options only to end up with keyboard shortcut conflicts that they can’t resolve because they really don’t know what they’re doing. So, by not having such options, he doesn’t have to spend extra time providing that extra support. Most of the f.lux users are fairly computer-illiterate people from what I’ve seen. This isn’t a cut, but it’s just a fact that I have observed during my time on this forum. I think Michael is quite wise to keep this as simple as possible.

I like f.lux color and brightness manual hotkey controls and have wanted full manual mode for years.
I believe there is unfulfilled widespread interest for this as an enhancement.I know what color I want at all times and do not want f.lux adjusting itself after I manually set color/brightness.
I keep settings as red as possible that permits comfortable reading whenever I am not in a brightly-lit room.
It is beyond a rude experience at 4:00 A.M. when I am using dimmed at 800K in a dark room and then get blasted with an undimmed 6000K daytime color.
Hotkey full manual control could be enabled via a simple check box option that pauses or overrides the circadian rhythm adjustment. Please implement an option mode for hotkey full manual control in f.lux

@ManualControl I have also been wanting this for years. I am really getting annoyed by being blinded at random times in the morning. It should be easier to give manual control than to set up an automated system. It makes no sense.
