Waking up this thread again.. as it is related.
I am able to sideload the f.lux app on el capitan using xcode 7.2 on my iphone 5 running ios 8.4.1. but the third step says "When you first run, you’ll be prompted to open Settings > General > Profile on your device, and trust your developer account" I don't find this setting on my phone. There's no "profile" alternative under General.
Should I care about it? the app still works. Does it affect future pushed out updates or anything?

@Martin-Karlberg It's called "Device Management" in iOS 9.2. You should see a listing for your personal account after you've tried (and failed) to run the app; you can then hit "Trust" on the screen that comes up when you click your developer ID.

I am trying to side load using XCODE 6.4 on Yoesmite but when I get to the 4th step in the instructions from the f.lux website where it says "In the same place, under Identity > Team, select your iCloud account or Developer profile" It will not allow me to choose my iCloud account (I have added it as per the previous step in the directions). In order to side load do I need to have a developer account?

Thank you very much for all and any help!

@iasunder It's not necessary to have a developer account to use Apple's "free provisioning". It is necessary to have Xcode 7.
