I'd love to know more about how to read and use the curve that indicates when we're likely to be sensitive to light.
Edit: I think I'm starting to understand. I put in the approximate time I woke up, and this is where the little orange/red ball is right now:
As of right now, I have been awake for almost 14 hours. So, this makes sense: I'm getting more and more sensitive to light, and I'm getting close to my peak sensitivity. Judging from the way I am feeling right now and the way I have been feeling since I woke up and comparing it to this 'graph, I'd say it's fairly accurate.
Am I reading it correctly?
Here's what my copy of f.lux would look like if I were to try to imitate the Recommended Colors for waking up at 6:30 PM (sunrise time is about 6:45 AM):
Interesting.

Possible bug? Trying to hide f.lux from taskbar and found a bunch of other f.lux options.
-
I think it's because Windows keeps a record of all the different icons to have been loaded into the Notification Area. So, I think the f.lux icon is getting refreshed.
-
@TwoCables also f.lux keeps showing up on my taskbar after rebooting even though i've hidden it, the other apps I've hidden aren't reappearing, just f.lux.
-
@TwoCables Overload it! But hide it under and "Advanced user" or "Advanced settings". Some people want to control the shit out of f.lux. For example, when exactly to warm the screen, to which temperature exactly, maybe many times a day.

Yep. Like I said, I think that's because f.lux is refreshing its icon. Why not just leave it alone? Why do you have to hide it? It's a useful icon. If you hide it, then you have to unhide it just to access it.

Yeah. I know. I've been on this forum for a few years. lol It started out as a Disquss forum, so my join date on this forum doesn't represent my beginning with this community.

@TwoCables hmm alright thanks, hope this gets fixed. I just prefer my taskbar minimal as possible and I don't have usually need to access the icon, the app is so good I can just leave it be or use the hotkeys should I need to :)

@Locheed which video card is this?

Hi there, long time user of f.lux. I was very happy to see a new version for Windows last night. I immediately uninstalled the old version (V3) and installed the beta. Looks great, though I wasn't able to sync my Philips Hue bridge with it. Is that feature not operational yet? Also, I always put my computer into sleep mode before going to bed and only the monitor turned off. I had to shut down the computer entirely. This morning after I rebooted it and left it running it didn't go to sleep on its own as well. I think f.lux might be preventing it from going to sleep.
-
@Sleepy Yes we are preventing full sleep if you turn on the Hue controller....needs to be an option. This is mainly to fix the "lightswitch or power outage" problem where Hue comes on at 100% when you flip the power. For your laptop, is it staying awake on battery or just A/C power? (I hope it's only when you're plugged in.)
Hue pairing questions:
- Is there any content at https://www.meethue.com/api/nupnp ? We fallback to UPnP but this is more reliable.
- Are you being prompted to push the pairing button? There should be a visible notifier for the first 30 seconds after turning on the feature (and then it will fail).
- Is your hue bridge up to date, and is it the original or v2?
- I use http://www.telerik.com/fiddler to debug Hue, so if you like you may be able to see what's going on there.
-
@disqQ the new build (4.20) should sometimes show the "last 2" active apps so you can disable a game. Haven't tested this very much, but it may work.
-
Any chance we could get a 64 bit release now? :)

- I would like to disable dimming completely, is there a configuration setting for that?
Dimming? Or color temperature changing?
Just the brightness dimming.

Just the brightness dimming.
Do you mean you don't want it to dim when you press Alt+Page Down?

My screen became noticeably darker —less bright— at lower colour temperatures, which is something that didn't use to happen with v3: the colours would change, but the brightness would not vary. I sit in the same place and with the same light every evening, so I was surprised to have to increase the brightness of my screen.
However, the effect seems now less noticeable, after updating to 4.20. Not sure if it's the preset changing, or something else.

Hey Mike, I love the Very Fast transition. F.lux goes from 6500K to 800K in about 3-4 seconds when I launch f.lux. I'd like that to be even faster, but hey.
Can you make f.lux remember the last Dimming setting too?
