Simple ON/OFF

Hi, one basic feature I'm missing. There are some options to disabe flux until sunrise etc but I need just simple ENABLE/DISABLE. I don't want to have flux enabled by default. I want it to be enabled only when I need to. So I would like to have simple option ON/OFF and the possibiity to turn on flux by login to Windows with DISABLED by default.

ThxI had the same need, so I deleted its startup entry out of the Registry. So now f.lux doesn't start with Windows on my computer and the only time it's open is when I open it. When I want to disable it, I just exit f.lux. :)
The startup entry is here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The only way to have this entry automatically recreated is by reinstalling f.lux. So, it will never be recreated otherwise (so, never "behind your back").
I have Windows 7, so I also pinned f.lux to the Taskbar.

@TwoCables While this is a nice solution, it would be even nicer to have an actual on/off button so you don't have to keep quitting and restarting. ;)

Yeah, we do need something like this for sure. Or at least 3 of us think so. :)

Alt-End will turn it off for an hour. Not sure how much an hour does for you though.

One reason for not having f.lux open is, it can cause a performance problems in some video games where a hiccup occurs once per second. Even with f.lux disabled, this still happens because f.lux is still open and running. The program has to be completely exited so that its executable isn't even running.

@tugger It's not the same. I use my pc for productivity and gaming and video watching. For me it is inconvenient that the filter turns on automatically at all. I would like to have flux in the tray, loaded with Windows, but disabled. Only if I need the filter I would click "ON".
Now I had to remove flux completely from Windows startup. -

In the beginning, I didn't remove f.lux from Windows startup. Instead, I would always adjust the color temperature manually. If I wanted to use a color temperature from the "Lighting at night" menu during the day, then I would fake my location in f.lux to a location where the sun has already set. Most people would find this to be way too much work to do for the benefits, but not me.
Eventually, Lorna shared with me a tweak in the Registry to enable me to get any color temperature I want at any time of the day without having to change my Location (I was finally able to tell her what I want and how I use f.lux). This enabled me to get exactly what I wanted, and it allowed me to take f.lux out of Windows startup and only open it when I need it.
I'm only going to publicly share this Registry tweak with those who ask. I think that Lorna and Michael Herf would want it this way.
