f.lux on a VM?

I have a Windows PC that I use mainly for gaming, but also have on it a VM (created with VMware Workstation) with another instance of Windows that I use for productivity. I installed f.lux on that VM but it doesn't work at all, the program installed just fine but the colors never shift during the day. Is there any way to make it work or am I doing something wrong?

@EmilianoTalamo Nope, it's not going to work. The best you can do is run the VM on the desktop, and have f.lux running on the host computer.

Dang. Can it be made to work? This is an unfortunate limitation. In my case I'm dealing with a work machine that runs a secure (non-windows) hypervisor with Windows VMs on top.

@plethora Wow, that's a great way to run windows! But, no, you'll have to run f.lux on the host computer. If you can get into the host computer and install applications (assuming Linux here) then there are some Linux equivalent programs available. Actually just two to be exact.

Yeah, it's a shame. I assume that this is because f.lux plays with the color calibration of Windows (Something you can't control on a VM). It would be nice if f.lux could bring a "compatible mode" that just puts an orange/blue overlay on top of the whole screen so it creates some sort of artificial color shifting.
It's not great as running it natively, but it should work even on a VM.
