Version 20 bugs
-
Version 20 initially seemed to resolve the disabling issues in several apps. The AMOLED calibration seems to work better as well. However, after toggling disable from on to off f.lux constantly flickering between on and off in all apps. Aside from the wallpaper bug and amoled calibration bug in version 18, I think version 18 is far more usable. Nexus 6p on stock rom. Thanks for working on this devs.
-
@regisastrum Same, I'm getting constant flickering, mostly in Chrome. I know the devs said they're working on a fix, I agree, earlier versions were definitely more stable. Systemless rooted MHC19I Nexus 6p
-
Disable should fully kill the daemon -- totally dead. I'm going to guess our upgrade failed, and maybe possibly there are two copies running? This would be bad, but if you can try a reboot (and the flickering stops), that would be the explanation.
-
@herf I'm just coming out of flashing MHC19I so it was a fresh install and I've rebooted a few times.
-
To clarify, it's flickering on boot without me toggling disable
-
@herf I've tried rebooting it's a reproducible problems. The flickering doesn't start when the slider is on disable, but when you enable f.lux again.
-
thank you - we'll check it out
-
Works more or less OK on my Nexus 6P (will monitor, just installed it), but instantly crashes on my Pixel C.
I've uploaded the backtrace as a secret gist to github:
EDIT: Instantly as in I don't even get to see the preferences after first install. Works on Nexus 6P with Qualcomm driver.
EDIT2: Nexus 6P runs Android N Preview 1, the Pixel C runs Stock MXC14G (6.0.1_r18)

@mderezynski thank you - we are looking into both the flicker issue (fixed already) and the fragment crash for build 21.
-
Fragment crash seems to be for tablets/phablets, which explains why I couldn't find it before. Fixing now using the emulator.
-
v21 is rolling to beta.
Fixes:
- Crash on tablet/phablet
- Flashing on Chrome/etc.
Previously we were trying to find apps "like" Netflix that required DRM. For this build we are just making a blacklist, and netflix is the only entry.
If you see video playing back with a black screen, please report it.
-
@herf Hi, another bug is that when calling, the filter gets disabled, and only reapplies itself around 10 seconds later.
-
@Oscarb thanks we have hopefully flushed all these bugs in v21/22.
-
Version 21 is not usable at all on my OnePlus One running android 5.1.1 cm. It cycles orange and then turns off the display. Nothing is visible but touch screen still works. The other version prior to this worked alright.
-
Just a quick question: where can I get v21 actually? Great that you were able to fix the tablet crash so quickly, would love to give it now a try on my Pixel before going to sleep, but can't find the download :-(
-
Hey, I just update to version 21 and in fact the filter now works properly while calling. So, great job!
Also, will you consider offering a gradual transition mode (to go from sunset to bed for example?)
-
@jdtimothy v21 was buggy - we have posted v22 to fix it. It adds a time picker too.
-
@Oscarb it should default to a very gradual fade.
-
@mderezynski it should update if you are on the beta
-
Oh ok thanks!
And are you considering porting bedtime mode to Windows?
-
@herf I've signed up for the beta on the forum, but right now I have it installed from Play. Anyway, I don't want to sound impatient! It's fascinating that f.lux is now coming to Android, I've been looking forward to it for a bit now.
-
@Oscarb yes windows is mostly done, i'm just finishing up some UI and a few new things. We are sharing the same code on android, iOS, mac, linux, windows (and a couple other things)
-
Of course, Play beta, sorry.
Quick tip for everyone, though it has been said already: since the app uses root to run a daemon that is partially outside of Android's control, make sure you switch f.lux off before updating, but at least switch it off and back on after updating. That should make sure you don't only run the latest version of the app, but also the daemon.
-
@mderezynski yes this is good advice, and for uninstall/reinstall too.
We do have a system in place to quit the daemon and re-launch, but this only works when everything goes perfectly.
-
Just got version 22. It now works good as far as I can tell, thanks!
Bug(last 3 versions): the dark mode works for a number of seconds and then the background turns red and the text black.(more like ember)
-
Quick feedback about the Pixel C: works great! No issues so far. (EDIT: v22)
-
Updated to v22 and waiting on sunset. Uninstalled v20, rebooted, and reinstalled v22, just to be sure. Will report back after sunset.
-
v21 has been working great for me. Waiting on v22.
-
@regisastrum check the playstore, you should have it
-
22 is definitely better. Got stuck flashing on and off in one full screen game, but otherwise solid.
-
where is the Netflix issue explained?? I'm on v22 with a nexus6p, and I can't watch any full screen videos on Netflix or Google play movies. it's just a black screen....
-
@bunkzilla DRM conflict. Just disable f.lux and you'll be able to watch Netflix just fine.
