Screen flashes several times before settling on night lighting

Howdy folks, got a sort of annoying but not catastrophic problem that has cropped up recently. When I open my laptop at night for the first time, upon logging in, the screen starts sort of dim then flashes between day and night lighting, gradually getting bluer/brighter between flashes before getting to full blue, then abruptly switching to completely night lighting and staying there. The flashing seems variable between 4-8 or 9 times or so (roughly). It never flashes any other time.

System is Windows 10 build 10240, 64 bit, Intel HD 4400 graphics, driver 20.19.15.4331 (just updated driver recently, problem persists).
