Changing the location did not really help, as I have to keep changing it every few days to keep it at the right time.
So for now I've just been adjusting f.lux manually which is very inconvenient, and easy to forget.

I was talking about changing your location as needed, each and every day. I have to do this several times per week because I prefer 1200K when I am getting ready for bed if am still using the computer (and I always am). You see, I will sometimes be going to bed after sunrise. Or, I might be going to bed just minutes before sunrise. Sure, it could be argued that I could just move the 'Daytime' slider all the way to 2700K, but I have learned that this has too much blue in it for using just before going to bed. Once I tried 1200K, that was it, there was no going back for me. :) Most people would find this to be way too red, but I use very warm and very dim lighting in my room when I'm getting ready for bed.

So, I never let f.lux do anything automatically, and to be quite honest, I have come to strongly prefer always adjusting it manually because I don't go to sleep at the same time every day and I don't wake up at the same time every day. My lifestyle is such that I go to sleep whenever I need to and I wake up whenever I feel that I have slept enough, and sometimes that's at night and sometimes that's during the day, and sometimes it's somewhere in between. So, I actually don't have a choice: I have to use f.lux manually (but like I said, I have come to prefer doing everything manually).

I guess it's worth mentioning here that f.lux was created and is maintained by a husband and wife, whose names are Michael and Lorna. That's the "f.lux team". They don't have anyone helping them, at least not yet as far as I'm aware. Even so, it's still the best program of its kind. So, try to be more forgiving of f.lux's extreme simplicity. Michael and Lorna can only do so much, and f.lux is becoming more and more popular and so they're being inundated more and more with feature requests and complaints. In the beginning, they created it only for themselves. All it took was for a friend or a family member to see it on their computer and the rest is history.

So, until they are able to release a version of f.lux that has a feature like this, you will have to keep manipulating f.lux manually in whatever ways that you can in order to always have the color temperature that you want. If you have Windows Vista or 7 or 8.1, then you can use the Sticky Notes to remind yourself. Or, just put a real Post-It Note on your monitor. I would probably do that, actually. Cut it down to size if it's too big. Or, your reminder can be the simple fact that you don't have the color temperature that you want, when you want it. Y'know what I mean?

Again though, let's be forgiving and patient with Michael and Lorna. They are doing their absolute best, and it's not easy to please thousands upon thousands of people when it's just you and your wife or just you and your husband.

Well that's fine if you like adjusting it manually and playing about with a map, but that defeats the purpose of using f.lux for me.
I still want the program to adapt to local sunrise/sunset times, but within reasonable limits.
Those limits would have to be set manually, because my sleep schedule is not determined by the sun - otherwise I would only get four or five hours of sleep in the summer and 19 or 20 hours of sleep in the winter!

I wasn't suggesting that you kill your desire for f.lux to do that. I'm trying to say that Michael and Lorna's plates are already quite full, so while we wait for them to do what they can in future releases of f.lux, you will continue having to adjust f.lux manually either by changing your location or by just moving the sliders back and forth. There's really nothing else that can be done or suggested right now. They are only two people. So, let's be patient with them. We don't even know if they will be able to figure out how to make f.lux do this, so we can only wait and see what they say or do. They have busy lives though.

Edit: The font size is a little messed up in my post here. I don't know how I did that.

F.lux also doesn't use a cheap overlay like those other programs do. F.lux does it properly.

Yes. I thought I had overlooked a setting. I am up at 0400 - 7 days a week. If sunrise would ever occur around here by then - it would mean the planet had been knocked off its latitude. Yet - I would like my laptop to think it is sunrise then - perhaps starting transition around 0300. Similar with sunset - in bed by 9 pm - 7 nights a week (dull boy). So - I would prefer transition to begin at 6-or-7 pm. Continually adjusting locations to fool the software would not be much fun. So - it seems that a setting to tell f.lux that sunrise and sunset will be at manually set times until I tell it otherwise - would be useful. Thank you.

I'm having the same issue with timezones. It's a very nice idea, but for us living far from the equator (Sweden in my case) the f.lux rhythm becomes too fluctuating to be helpful for my circadian rhythm. My screen just dimmed at 15:30, which is way too early to get tired. I'm still at work! ;)

I use f.lux and Philips HUE alarms (separately) to simulate a constant day/night cycle at home throughout the year. Because nature isn't very helpful up north, where the winter has 4 hours sunlight and the summer has 23 hours. It's not often I ask for less features, but this would be one. I'd rather have a simple default or just input what time I'd like to wake up and go to sleep, than f.lux figuring out the suns cycle and mimicking automatically based on my geolocation.

I started out in Nigeria too, mainly in Enugu, but I moved around to a few different places. I stayed in Ogbomosho for a while. Then I decided to go farther south, to Cameroon. I spent quite a lot of time in Lolodorf, it was one of my favourites. But I had a feeling I should go to the west. I went all the way to Freetown, in Sierra Leone, but I wasn't comfortable there, so I made the move to Liberia. At the moment I'm living in Pee, but will likely switch to Tea, which is quite close, or give Bong Town a shot. Saturday is not far away, though maybe I'll end up settling in Jelly, or go out to Garage - will have to see how it goes.

I agree that this would be a very important feature to have. Even in the summer, when the sun hardly sets here at all, I'd still like my computer to cue me at 8pm that it's time to start getting sleepy
