@bro_lette Yeah, it got taken down because Apple didn't like the way the @f-lux-team did it (used closed source code). The did that because they don't want people copying their application, and doing it wrong--which already happens without using any of their code, and that's bad because people think red filters actually do something.
So, now Apple is somewhat pressured to release a similar feature, but because they are Apple, they released "Night Shift" which only works on VERY new, 64-bit devices, which is bullshit, because f.lux worked on an iPhone 3 with no issues on iOS 4.x. So Apple is only going to make it work on new devices, which is rude to do, and f.lux wants to still release their program so that it can be tweaked / updated, and work on older devices.
Yeah basically because its badass is why. I'm trying to get an equivalent for all of my screens I use. I've even started using a theme for my ipod photo (that's hacked with Rockbox) thats mostly black with orange text because its so easy on the eyes.
If its not doable, then ok. All I really wanted was to know if anyone anywhere had an old version, just the .deb file, that is compatible with my os. if not then ok I didn't mean to cause any fuss, I just wanted something i could use on there. I may look to see if there's ant themes for my old phone that may do something similar. I've tried to use an invert option but it didn't work because its incompatible to.
Because of Apple legal demands, it's not permitted to discuss how to get the sideload xcode project here.
Please note that some of the files floating around out there don't match the original download. This may be a good thing - one project has a recent commit for "black screen fix #19". On the other hand, beware as always about installing apps from unknown sources. I guess you can get the original, compare the files, and decide for yourself.
I found the original by googling the file name. You can verify that it's the real thing by entering this in Terminal:
shasum -a 256
Then type a space, then drag and drop the master zip file onto the Terminal window and press return. Confirm that the result matches the SHA 256 fingerprint herf posted.
I've heard there may be problems with it on the latest iOS and Xcode, this "black screen" for one. I don't know really, because I didn't go through with the installation. Something about it has to send a stream of notifications while it's working, possible problems on the latest iOS, and basically that it's an unfinished beta that will never be updated. YMMV. I found that sticking a piece of orange plastic film over the screen at night works fairly well...
We'll release an official statement about all this shortly. I'm quite certain they didn't take code from any open source projects. Apple's displays and devices team has some of the best color people in the world and they have clearly spent a lot of time thinking about this. (Also I don't recall a reason that you'd be banned @danielng01, we put in some filtering for spam so maybe your account got wiped during that. Sorry!)
That's fair. I just thought it might not be a big job to enable an advanced mode for calibration, or perhaps there might be a way to activate a debug mode for it, as I thought you would likely have internal controls for calibration.
I understand that it might seem an odd request. I've just never been that much of a phone person so this old hand-me-down suits me just fine for now. Better than the feature-phone it's replacing.
